No banned stages (@ most tournies, banned stage list is: Hyrule Temple, Icicle Mt., Fourside, Brinstar Depths, Termina, Yoshi's Island 64, Jungle Japes, & Flatzone... u can check smashboards.com for more info if u need =))?

Also, first stage is normally chosen randomly from the random select, which normally is as follows: Battlefield, Final D, Dreamland 64, Pokemon Stadium, Mute City, Fountain of Dreams & Yoshi's Story. Then, the loser of the first match announces what the stage will be for Match 2, then the winner may change character in response to the level selection, & then the loser may change character in response to the winner's character selection. =) Then if a Match 3 comes into play, loser of Match 2 announces stage, etc. Aka Advanced Slob Picks. Dunno if you've heard of that before, but I figured I'd post for ya to think about (just tryin 2 help ya out in case u wanted to use somewhat formal SSBM tourney rules to prevent people from complainin about bein cheated, etc., since these add a bit more balance & fairness in most tournies). =)

You want a reason 4 each stage? If so, lemme know... For now, I'll just list a few quickly off the top of my head...
Hyrule: camping... aka, running away (running around that left part of the stage to hold onto a lead until the time runs out). Also, u don't die when u fight on the lower level, since u just hit the walls over & over...
Flatzone: easy deaths off the sides... such as by simply being grabbed & thrown, & by rolling when bein hit & attempting to roll to recover.
Icicle Mt: self-explanatory, right?

Aggreed, I love Hyrule as a stage and I find it very hard for someone to camp against me, since, as Yao stated above, people do have offense. People may go and hide but all you have to do is just go attack them... Kinda simple.

As for Garrett... You try keeping up with a bored when you have a 56k modem cause your interent provider sucks and can instal phonelines one day, but have to wait 3 MORE DAYS to connect me to DSL... Sorry Im good now...

I agree with orky, and i'm not spending 20 bucks on a tournament without level restrictions. I agree it's just a game, but there's money involved, and some levels are just ridiculous SD traps. I'm not gonna pay THAT much money just so i can get screwed out of a win because the wind direction changes and blows me away, or the floor disappears, or i fall through brinstar. Also, I dont need that chance advantage on my opponent, and i wouldn't accept the victory either.

Erm, few comments. First off, can you provide an address for those of us who do not know the location of the event? I realize you specified Woonsocket, but we need a bit more detail then that. If you could give the entire address so that I could use mapquest, then I'd be in good shape. I'm sure the same applies for the others, so we really do need an address, especially if this tournament is occuring a week from now.

Next, I must comment on the rules. Most maps have been banned in tournaments for a very good reason; they just lack any true balance. Take Hyrule temple. It was banned because it favors highly pathetic strategies. For instance, a character like jigglypuff can run in, hit a character with a single attack, and then delay the match with rising pound. The win would go to jiggly. Don't think sudden death would fix this. The jiggly user can simply alter strategies and get a single cheap kill with rest, and proceed to stall the match and leave the other player helpless to harm the puff ball.

You can trust the judgement of the most experienced players in this game. After all, they have a true understanding of the game and were the ones to decide which maps to use during tournament play. After all, tournaments are created to see which players are the best, not to see which players can come up with the most unfair strategies to win. Should such maps be allowed, you will be subjecting a lot of luck into play, which is certainly an unnecessary factor that does not need to be there if it can be avoided so easily.

I agree with Unknown force, the banned stages set down by smashboards are there for a reason, to make sure tournaments are fair.

I'm not gonna pay $20 to show up to a tourny where I can go to flat zone and be killed by flaco's triple shine in 2 seconds. We havent even mentioned all the horrible things that can happen to people on these levels. For example, I believe fox has an instant kill on Jungle japes with certain characters...on an edge, he just grabs and throws down...and bam there dead.

Stages are banned for a reason, I think you should seriously consider changing to at least match the MLG rules for available boards

Wow, how did I miss that? After all, getting thrown should = death on ANY fair stage. :rolleyes: Also, u think I don't know what offense is? It's just this simple: 1 person takes the lead & just runs around the area on the left where u can run/jump in circles... It has nothing to do with hiding... Being offensive isn't gonna stop your opponent from running if your opponent decides to run... I'm not a camper myself, but if u go 2 this thing & I do go (if some of the rules are altered... mainly banned stages), I'll show u if u don't already comprehend... =) I already know that if some of these rules are changed to more formal rules, that this event could get up to 15+ more peeps to come (off the top of my head)...

If you're still convinced that u have some "unbeatable offense," then would u (or the other person who posted about offense) accept a money match? $10, best of 3, 5 stock, 8 min time limit, real stages (Final D, Pokemon Stadium, Dreamland 64, Mute City, Yoshi's Story, FoD, Battlefield... or better yet, just Final D to showcase your offense without any stage interruptions)? I'd probably even play on crap stages such as Hyrule, but the matches would just take too long in my opinion...

If you want really good numbers for this tourny, I would highly suggest advertising it on www.smashboards.com . But watch out cuz they will probably diss all over your lack of banned stages and such. Also, smashboards is a great place to go to learn all the tricks and techniques. I'm personally just learning how to wavedash. I'm so n00b.

Heh, well, as much as I would like a limited stage selection, simply because they aren't fair and some favor certain characters a lot. The idea here is to have fun. This isn't like MLG or Smash4Cash or anything. Most people going will just go to pay the flat rate, and Smash will just be a thing on the side I think. So basically as long as they have fun everything is cool. And I already played Youan on Thursday I think it was. We had quite a few one on ones. Though he did beat my Fox with his Shiek once. I'm pretty sure you or KirbySan will still take this though, banned stages or no, lol. But I'll still be there.

Well i just wanted to know WHAT TIME DOES THIS TOURNAMENT START?? im assuming practice hours and sign ups are like 10am-1pm or something and tournament starts at 2pm... I HOPE IT STARTS AROUND 2pm.. i am coming from a long way and im working that day from 8:30-12:45pm and it takes an HOUR to get to Woonsocket unless i really MOTOR on the highway. in anycase can someone let me know..... i really want to go to this thing and i cant take a day off work because i just started. Soo lemme know... AND IF YOU WANT A GOOD COMPETITOR THEN You should start it at 2pm!!!! hehehehe so i can go.. the tournament starts in about 8 hours. from what i've heard, the competition is fierce, and the players are serious. I will see lcancelling, DI, and wave travelling like never before. I'm not confident that i can place high enough to make it worth joining...so i'm not entering.
