I've played a TON of MKII over the past month or two with some friends, including one session that lasted over 3 hours. I'm up for playing some more.

I've been looking for copies of MKII since it was my favorite of the MK series. I recently found a pretty much new condition Genesis at a yard sale and have been trying to expand my collection of games... Any ideas where to go other than eBay?

Scoop up Midway Arcade Treasures 2. It has somewhat arcade perfect MK2 and MK3 (The geniuses at Midway decided not to map the acrade start button, so no random select or fighting Smoke in MK2, and apparantly once you use the ultimate kombat kode to unlock Smoke in MK3, he doesnt stay unlocked after you turn the game off). But other than that, its definitly worth the $20

In those recent session with my friends, we played Midway Arcade Treasures 2 as well as the versions for SNES and Genesis. Genesis is BY FAR AND AWAY the worst. Definitely get the SNES one if you want a 16-bit one. Unless you don't have an SNES. Then you suck. ;)

Yeah, no Random Select sucks ass. That's all I ever do. Boooo.

Do what I do, close your eyes and move the cursor around

And the genesis had the Fergality, how could that not be good XD

I've heard from a couple of my friends, who are hardcore fighting game fanatics, that the original MKs lacked a lot of depth and strategy. They do like the new one though.

What makes this game such a good fighter? I haven't played much of it, well, not while actually attempting strategery.

The originals were still great games. They just were hard to excell at, the thing was that you could be good by button mashing so alot of people didn't think it was a good fighter

I don't like the new ones at all. 2 was definitely the best, but the all sucked after changing to 3D. But on the whole, the entire MK series is not regarded as a fighting game series of the highest quality. It's just a fun game.

No one can be good at any fighting game by button mashing. -_- Everyone says that about some game or other and it just isn't true. Even the VS series. ;P

I think Deadly Alliance and Deception are good for what they are: simple, combo heavy, be-cheap-or-die fight fests. I do enjoy both of them, but they'll never replace VF4: Evo in my heart, darn it!

I just don't like the engine. It's so...clunky. Midway just tries to do too many gimmicky things, I think.

Although I guess I have sort of a natural bias towards 2D fighters anyway. The SC series is the only 3D series I ever could get in to.

Yeah, MK: D is good for fun, nothing I'd really put a ton of blood sweat and tears into (and the MK: D online community is horrid btw). More of a VF/Tekken/SC2 fan (although I gotta give props to the 2D fighters, especially GGX2)

But yeah, anyone wanna play some Ol' Skool MK, Im definitly into it.
