View Full Version : The First Week and the Future...

Well folks, one week has gone by, and to tell you the truth - I am pretty excited about how everything is going, mostly having to do with the support we've gotten. I really have to thank those that have signed up and put in their time to making this place great, even in its first week!

We're almost at 60 and growing strong. But now's not a time to take what we have and run, but there is a lot planned for the future over the next three months. I had a meeting with Andy and with the moderators a few days ago about where we wanted the forums to go as a whole. We came up with a few ideas, so here's my report.

As for current features:
I added a function to see how much power you have over a person's karma (http://www.tokyogameaction.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1) which you can find in the right corner of your posts, this will become important as we roll into month two.
TGA has a chatroom on IRC! Thanks to our own Zach (a member of the vBulletin team I might add), we have a great hack tying in xIRC to the forums, it's kind of silent right now, but we hope to get the place cookin' sooner or later!

As for things to expect:
First and foremost, I know everybody wants their picture gallery back, I do too, but it'll take some work to get there. With Andy's approval we are working on raising money (through the imfamous Google Ads and an upcoming "tournament") for Photopost (http://www.photopost.com), which is one of THE best image galleries out there. Not only will it be tied to your login, you (if your karma allows it) will also be able to have your OWN image gallery to show off your gaming memories. As you will see, it does come at a price, but I will only have the best for my members.
I plan to install vB remote image hosting, the beta testers got a taste of this, and I plan to put it in again so that forum members will be able to upload their own signature images and have them hosted on our server, so you won't have to worry about Geocities going down.
There's rumors of a "flash arcade", but that'll take some thinking.
Finally (for now), I will be totally revamping the usergroup system. In simpler terms, I will be spliting up the users based on team, TGA staff members, active and inactive members. Andy and I have agreed that signing up for the forums and having 0 posts, or coming in posting once and never coming again aren't enough to get the rewards - as with all things - you have to work for it. As for teams, as the registration form said, if you have a team contact me, so I can set up your private conference room. Team Leominster is serving as a guinea pig and it is working wonders.

Well, if you successfuly got through all this, you should get karma just for doing so. Some of it is ambitious, some of it a little reach, but there is nothing that can't be done. Remember, any suggestions will gladly be taken into consideration.

And last but not least, you may discuss this thread here (http://www.tokyogameaction.com/forums/showthread.php?t=97).

Regards,
Bryan & Team TGA Online
