View Full Version : So, how about that real american music?

You know. Where people are actually playing instruments. And possibly speaking in english? Anyone remember this stuff.

This is a thread for music of all genres that ARENT Techno or anything japanese.

Honestly, some of you people focus too much on music that you dont understand, when there are GREAT american musicians out there, some of which, even play stuff that is like the Japanese shit that you dont even know what they're saying. I'm not saying that Japanese music (as a whole) or Techno (as a whole) is bad music, it's just the fact that I see you idiots praising this shit like it's the next coming of christ, when really its just computer generated with synthesizers and things of the like, not saying the producers arent talented, I'm just saying, it's alot harder to play one instrument than it is to organize pre-recorded beats and samples.

ALSO, while I'm ranting about music, stop putting all techno into the catagory "Dance". OMGS ELECTRONIC DANCE SO GOOD. No. Electronic dance is like this:
RenegadeX3: OMG WATCH MY ELECTRONIC DANCE
RenegadeX3: beep boop boop
RenegadeX3: *robot arm swing*
Zing.

In short, you all have terrible tastes in music, and I hope you die.

'cept rob brown and amanda, who have turned me on to quite a few good bands.

Everyone's enittled to thier own opinions.

As far as "american music" goes I like Blondie, Snake River conspiracy, The Distillers, Rancid, Letters to Cleo, Stabbing Westward, System of a Down, Tori Amos, The Aquabats, Garbage, and a whole lot more that I can't remember off of the top of my head.

I could list more, but a lot of the other bands I like are English and whatnot. I like all sorts of music.

I listen to oldies a lot. Personally, I think a lot of the rock out there is shit in comparison to awesome people like John Cougar Mellencamp, Bob Seger... anyone like that and from that era. Rock on oldies.

Word. I listen to alot of stuff, getting into some classic rock at the time, though.

I don't have any real american type bands on my playlist, really, with a few exceptions. Although the stuff like Nightwish and Sonata Arctica are foreign they're still in english so that counts.

I've stopped giving a fuck if what i listen to is english/real music or not. :p

I likes the Japanese music when it's music that has crappy lyrics when I understands it. (i.e. angsty rock, pop)
I likes the American music when it kicks Japan's ass. Like how Ben Folds does or Queen does.

Yeah I like all of the old stuff from Offspring. I went to the Meteora Tour and I felt bad for P.O.D. No one likes them. They played a few songs and no one knew any of their songs. Just the old stuff.

Yeah, that's cool... um...
I LIKE JAZZ AND CLASSIC ROCK! Don't beat me up.... you know, like the beatles, and Ellington...

And by Jazz i don't mean Kenny G. Kenny G is a disgrace to the idea of jazz.

P.O.D's old stuff was so good. Shit like Southtown was amazing.

Yes it was good. The kids sang along and whatnot. But when they played new stuff, and they put the microphone at the crowd, the kids, and myself, had no idea what to sing back. Their old stuff was good. And still is. But their time is over, unfotunately so.

the offspring used to be really good, you should listen to their older cd 'Smash' if you haven't heard it. I haven't heard anything from their new CD except 'Hit that' but I think it kinda sucks. I was afraid to get the new cd thinking it may suck.

Denial revisted from their cd before their newest is a really good song...

Smash was by far the Offspring's best album. That came out in like 7th grade for me or something. :D I never thought POD was that great though. :/

I vote to boycott music genres from here on in. Better yet, only create two genres. Good, and Bad

Yar, what a spiritual, liberal movement that would be. But I can see it now, twenty years in the future:

Fred: "What kind of music do you listen to?"

George: "Bad music."

Fred: "Oh... I listen to good music..."

George: "Man... good music sucks!"

tori amos and the faint are the main ones i can say i listen to...other than them i don't have more than 5 songs by one artist (not counting oldies) because my taste is really varied and random. ^_^; i'm really into lyrics, though...that's all the songs i listen to have in common.

i like foreign music because a different language stimulates me...and i get good practice at pronunciation when i sing along. i don't like not knowing what it's about, though. i usually look up the lyrics and translation right after i first hear it.

*giggles at sum 41 being reffered to as old school punk*

btw, has anyone read the translation (unless you understand spanish) to shakira's "inevitable" (the word is spelled the same in english and spanish)? i've been listening to that song since i was 13 or 14 and her use of words still gets me. she's such an amazing and insightful writer.

come on guys. led zeppelin. i love classic rock, but they've gotta be my fav. also worth mentioning... lynyrd skynyrd, some hendrix, etc. ^o^

i didn't know P.O.D. existed before "Alive". shows me how much i know :P

i used to like Sum 41 when no one else liked them... like way back in the day when they came out with "Makes No Difference".... bands end up sucking when they go mainstream sometimes..?

Jenni, I think Shakira's amazing. I agree she's a really good songwriter.. and her music just generally draws me in. I love it.

anyone into the dancehall reggae that's out now?
