Anyone picking this up tommorow (9/8/04)? I know I am. I already per-ordered it and plan on grabbing it after work.
What I do know is that the main character's name is Henry and you're pretty much stuck in a room/apartment. I think you can "travel" or leave through a hole in the wall if my memeory serves me right. Also, you play in both first person and third person mode. Supposedly there's a bunch of new weapons too.
Btw, In case you haven't seen this yet:

Also, I'm listening to the Soundtrack right now, and the music rocks (as did the music in all of the previous SH games).

Silent Hill 4 will kill you by looking at you.
I only played for a few minutes, as I have a headache. When a creepy face showed up in my apartment wall, I decided to put it on hold until tommorow. XD I only played for 5 minutes and its already creepy.
The graphics are awesome as usual (from what I've seen so far).

Are the controllers still as clunky? I mean... everyone knows that the best way to beat SH3 was to just run around all the monsters.

I haven't played in 3rd person yet, but the only problem I have with the controls in first person in how to look up you have to press up on the directional, and to look down you press down. I prefer it the other way around (reverse-pushing down makes you look up,and up makes you look down). Its a minor thing really.
I liked the controls in SH3, after putting it on Reverse.

I've played the first 3 and i have to say it's my 2nd reason for buying a ps2. The game really creates a world you can lose yourself in...the atmospheric events and nightmarish creativity render other survival horror games inadequate. The only flaws you could argue are the controls (which are fine...unless you're manually inept) and the character interaction and dialogue, at times, seems sketchy...but i think it just reinforces mankind's psychopathic extremes.
Akira Yamaoka is great, too. I think i've collected most of his music from the series. Hell, i even learned to play the theme of the first game on piano. His range is incredible... reaching from dark industrial to ambient chill, and further still. You're not here, sung by Melissa Williamson (http://akas.imdb.com/name/nm0569479), is one of my favorite songs of all time.
