Allow to me to enlighten the masses, who may not have played this game, to the way the game works.
Unlike previous FF's, this game is divided into "Chapters." In each Chapter, there are certain events that must occur, and "Hotspots" appear which tell you where to go to advance the story. You go to these Hotspots by simply choosing a destination for your airship; it's like FFX, where you don't fly it...you just say where you want to go. Now obviously, if you're an FF player, you're going to avoid these Hotspots at all cost and explore everywhere else first. That's fine. Even THIS gets a little ridiculous, though.
In one Chapter, after clearing all of the existing Hotspots, a new one appears. Usually you don't have the option of exploring elsewhere after you clear the Hotspots that were there at the start of the Chapter. In this case, however, you have to return to an area of the world in which you couldn't do anything before. But now there're things to do there. How are you to know this? You're not. But I can let it slide in the spirit of checking any/everywhere after the slightest little plot element occurs, asinine though that may be.
However, there's more to the airship than just going here and there. The airship itself contains an engine room with chests that refill every Chapter, a deck from which to look at the skies for no reason, and a cabin in which you can shop for basic items. In addition to shopping, the cabin also offers the option to "rest." What does "rest" do? Well, in and of itself...not a damn thing. The game's save points refill your HP/MP and cure status ailments, and there's one on the airship, so it's not as if you ever need an inn. No, it would seem that all that "rest" does is force you to wait while the main character rolls over, sits up, then stands after awakening. However, there are apparently scenes aboard the airship in the final chapter which can ONLY be seen if you've selected "rest" at least once during each chapter. Yet..."rest"...serves no discernable purpose...nor would one possibly think it was necessary to see scenes in the game...scenes which, I am sure, add nothing to the plot, and are only comic relief. Yet without seeing these scenes, your completion percentage, which is tallied when you save from the beginning of game, cannot reach 100%.
In short, despite the 65 hours I've put into this game, I cannot attain 100% completion this time because I didn't do something that was useless.
And this is why Final Fantasy sucks.
