View Full Version : Anime Night II

I've started a new poll for the movies that could be up for the next Anime Night that TGA will hold at a later date to be announced. Just so votes don't get mixed between this and the old thread, I will be closing the old thread.
Recommendations are allowed, but remember that the material must be viewable by all audiences in accordance with Andy's request during the first Anime Night. I will be happy to add any movies to the poll if they follow the "family friendly" guideline. However, in order for a movie to be placed on the poll, the requested movie MUST be "seconded" by 2 other members so we don't clutter the options.
On the poll now are the 3 choices that didn't make it to the first Anime Night.

azumanga daioh (http://www.schala.net/azu/)
hm...except that's fairly long for a screening. we probably wouldn't be able to watch any more than 6 episodes a night (with an intermission), and even then it'd take at the very least 4 nights. and do we know anyone that owns it?
oooh! ooh! i vote to add haibane renmei (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=1871). anybody 2nd it? for that matter, anybody own it? ^_^;;

I've seen each of these movies 3 or 4 times. What about Akira? I've only ever heard of it but... I'd much prefer something new.

Akira is definitely not "family oriented". o_o

Haibane is a great idea considering its a relatively short series, 4 dvds, and it's pretty enjoyable. I was also considering Last Exile, but I think it's a bit too long for a simple screening. FLCL is another one that someone brought up. I truly love FLCL, but I'm swaying more towards Haibane because I have yet to see the last 2 dvds.

Ghost in the shell is fairly non family oriented as well. Sad to say. It might pass, but I don't think it would really get approved.
Just my oppinion, as it's not my choice.

P.S. haven't seen the others, can't say.

I know! Let's all watch The Ping Pong Club! XD. Hey, if the old anime 'club' at the Borders in Garden City could watch it in the kids section, I think that qualifies as family oriented!
Then again, we got kicked out after 15 minutes... :p

We're not talking the movie here, we're talking the series, which is VERY tame as far as violence goes in comparison to the movie.

how long is it?
akira, not really family oriented. it's really good, but if anything i think most of us have seen it...or am i just assuming?
yay, i have some agreement on haibane renmei!! ^__^ so can we add it to the poll? add flcl as well, since a few people have already considered it. i don't remember anything objective in the series (except some things that may be implied...but i mean, if they're too young to watch it, i think they'd be too young to pick it up since it's subtle), but then again i didn't see the last episode.

Sure, I'll add them when I get home from work, if no one beats me too it, I"m just kidna tired right now, and feeling very sluggish. I think it was the caffine I had last night... o_O
But yea. We should start planning a date, so I can figure out when I need off work, or whatnot... OH wait... that's me and Jen's job, * chuckle * ... D'oH! =D
* makes mental note to PM Jen when he gets home from work *
I'd love to see most of these, broaden my Anime horizon, as it were. And Stax, you own too much ANime apparently =)

ooooooooooh. i'm interested in some, but if they're not appropriate for TGA, can i borrow them? i'd take very good care of them, seeing as how i treat anime like gods because they are not to be scathed in any manner. ^_^;
i wanna see:
noir
ep. 6 - 26
(i only own the first dvd)
angel sancturary
ep. 1 - 3
(i've been drooling over this forever, but i only ever got ahold of some of the manga)
boku no sexual harrassment
(cuz it sounds funny)
record of lodoss war
ep. 1 - 27
(heard it was good)
revolutionary girl utena
ep. 1 - 17
(i'm obsessed with the movie, so i need to see more episodes)
excel saga
ep. 1 - 26
(was recommended to me)
kodomo no omocha (you might want to fix this title on your directory ^^;)
ep. 1 - 4
(i just finished reading the manga, but i'm not ready to let it go yet ;-; so i'm looking for somewhere to download the anime!)
weiss kreuz
ep. 1 - 8
(i'm just curious about this one)
macross plus
the movie
(i need to see this one)
my neighborhood totoro
(i am ashamed that i haven't seen this one *bows head in shame*)
okay, i don't expect you to lend me all these at once, but maybe you have a big heart and will send some of them my way? :D nice selection, btw! i'd be happy to lend you some of mine if you haven't seen them yet. PM me and i'll give ya my list, or i can post it here later.

Man, name the time and well, I know the place. Anime night=fun night. If we do it on a Sunday, we should have a theme. Like Satoshi Kon night... anyone up for some Perfect Blue? Memorial Actress? Tokyo Godfathers? C'mon, there IS NO bad Kon movie. Fight me on this one.
