The retooled Nintendo DS features a thinner, black base and an angular platinum flip-top cover. The face buttons and shoulder buttons are larger, and some have been reconfigured for optimum use. The unit includes a new storage slot for the touch screen's stylus, and the speakers now broadcast in stereo sound, with or without headphones.

Wow, that thing looks......sexy o.o

I think that looks horrid. Honestly. Portability is nice, as is style. That only has one of the two. The rest of it is like "OMG CHROMED OUT AM I RITE?!?!?!". That's why I like iPods so much I guess.

I like the chromed out look, but im also into cars so chrome is a must. i still think the PSP is better,

Craz, the PSP is definetly gonna beat out the nintendo DS. even though i am a nintendo freak, i still think that the PSP is gonna be better. the graphics are a lot better and i bet a lot more better games are gonna be comin out for it. so in other words Craz, ur right! lol

No way the PSP is gonna beat this. I demand backwards compatibility and a generic pimp look. Sure PSP will be nice and all, but DS gets my money

I thought the original DS design looked a lot like a Game and Watch on crack.

Now it is a Game and Watch on crack. Does is also feature a built-in alarm now too?

i hope it has an alarm, mine just broke.
Upon reviewing the picture a bit more, i liked the original design better. It was more GBA SP like. And that's all i want, something sexy to go with. Now it just looks like the prototype PSP

I don't really care what it looks like, as long as it's portable and plays good games.

I was gonna get one before....and I still am! And I'm not gonna get a PSP! Woo!

Me, im going to stick with PSP. Offers more than DS. I can burn music or movies onto those discs, so after im done smacking some poor shmuck around at GT4 wireless play, i can watch a freshly ripped Bourn Supremecy....ohhh wait

I've heard DS will have AVI playback features... If this is true, Then I can watch all my anime on my DS.... That would be hella sweet

You can burn stuff onto PSP format discs? How? I know it has movie capability, but I wasn't aware they were including pirating software. :) Aren't the discs proprietary (maybe not)? I thought they were just going to release movies in disc format that you have to buy. Although if that's the case, I guess we can assume someone will find a way. DS is still cartridges though, so I'm guessing you'll have to buy whatever it is you want to watch for that too, like the cartoon episodes for GBA.

Anyway, I don't need a movie player. And PSP hasn't shown me anything so far in terms of game play or actual nifty games that aren't ports of old games. And I like neat, quirky stuff anyway. :)

If you're selling a GBA: SP, I'll buy it.

Chris, Sony hasnt released info on HOW to burnt he discs or even what kind of discs or software will be needed, atlewast to what i have read so far. But they DID say that it could verywell be the next walkman.

That doesn't mean you can burn discs.....does it?

kamilumin

Well if they're trying to make it into the next walkman, then pretty much yes. For any music thing to be successful, you've got to be able to make personal mixes, not to mention it won't use CDs, so for there to be music at all, you must have a feature to change from CD/computer into the new discs.

Junior Asparagus

I guess that's true. I dunno, I guess that'd broaden it's appeal...but I'd just get an mp3 player if I wanted that. I heard the phrase "the new Walkman," but I just thought they meant a portable media device that everyone would have.

Also, a tidbit from IGN:

Are PSP discs writeable or rewriteable?

No, the UMD cannot be written to. Only Sony will be able to create UMD media -- the company has no plans to make external UMD writers devices, and even third-party publishers will not be able to create their own discs without Sony's ability to press the data to UMD.

What will the PSP use for memory storage without a writeable disc?

The PSP will make use of Sony's Memory Stick format, small rewriteable Flash ROM cards about the size of a stick of bubble-gum. This format will mostly be used for the same uses as the Memory Card for PlayStation and PlayStation 2: game character and progress saves, user-created data, online downloaded content, and system profiles and hardware drivers. The Memory Stick media will also be used to store separate audio and video files for those who use the handheld's additional multimedia features. The specific Memory Stick format to be supported by PSP is the Memory Stick PRO Duo format.

If ANYTHING, you'll be able to somehow write to the memory stick. It also does say music/movies will be released in disc format. I still am not sure about the whole writing-to-disc though though...

I personally think that the DS looks quite sexy. ;)

Knowing my spending habits, I'll end up getting both the DS and the PSP.

You know, I just read this and was wondering, you gonna mod that battery on that thing to be able to play some GT4 Wireless play and THEN watch a movie?
