Can you post a link? Maybe... their website or something? Are they a band? Enlighten me because I have no idea what's going on with music anymore.

Yes, I like Coheed and Cambria. But the problem with your statement is that you are unhappy with a stereotype, that , if following the stereotype, they do fit into the genre.

I prefer to not use stereotypes as much as I can, but I will admit, that they , when not used in an agressive or mean spiritied manner, can make life a bit easier.

I LIKE Coheed, and think they are Emo Music. But not in the sense that Emo has apparently evolved into lately of "My girlfriend left me, I'm gona slit my wirsts" Which, to be honest, offends me, but I take enough stands here about other things that I can leave that one alone, and might end up being the only person to take said stand.

ANYWAY.

Coheed is the Beez Kneez man. I been getting more and more exposed to them lately via friends and personal interest.
Did you know that all of their songs are based off of a comic book they write which is named, strangely enough, Coheed and Cambria?

The songs are interpritations of the characters lives and events in the comic.

Or so I've been told, but if so, that is really interesting, cause they still make good music.

And for you Bryan...

I love coheed with much passion. Up until last week, they hardly ever left my cd player in my car. And yes, I spent a month learning to sing just like that Somoan looking guy with the afro

you mean claudio, hes a mexican, oh yeah, they classify themselves as progressive , not emo

DJ_Midnite
July 20th, 2004, 00:04
They'd be pushing it saying they are progressive, Progressive would be more along the lines of The Mars Volta, Which in my opinon dont resemble Coheed at all, But maybe thats just me.

:::Flips out:::

OMG! Another person who listens to Dream Theater! YES! Im not the only one, I have been listening to Dream Theater since I was... Well I forget acctually, But my dad introduced me to them when I was I think 5 and I started really listening to them and Rush when I was 9 and havent stopped since hehe ^_^

Ishbo

Ghost
July 20th, 2004, 15:08
hey guys, progressive sucks, if you want to get technical with it, coheed says they "dont like to be classified" but if they had to be they would call themselves " twentyfirst century progressive"

Valcion
July 20th, 2004, 15:27
Dream Theater > all.

Sonata Arctica and rush come at a close second though :D

DJ_Midnite
July 20th, 2004, 15:35
Wow, Sary to see that some people here listenin to Sonata Arctica lol, Thought I was the only american on the east coast lol ^^

Yao
July 20th, 2004, 17:24
yeah........music is nice. But this thread just goes to show that classification of music goes too far. There was a local band in Tiverton, called Another third rail. And if you wanted to classify them, it would be like "funk jazz blues progressive emo technical math core". Just rolls off the tounge

DJ_Midnite
July 20th, 2004, 17:45
Hmm... Sounds interesting... that made me want to listen to them.. And your 100 percent right abe, Classification has gotten way out of hand. Im just ganna call it msuic...^^

Coheed is very good. I think they are progressive rock. Progressive means the music tells a story, and it does. The Mars Volta is progressive rock to, but it's more out there, kind of like a mix of At the drive in/Radiohead. I like both of them. Coheed is not EMO, their lyrics dont resemble crap like this:

*clears throat and prepares a whiney emo voice"

"My girlfriend hates meeeeeeeeeeeeee
I slit my wrists and the blod spills everywheeeeeeeere.
Nobody loves meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I'm going to cut of all my haiiiiiiirrrrr"

etc...

Yao

Coppa, if that's emo, name an emo band, and please give an excerpt from one of their songs. Serious, i wanna see who's ruining this for me

.......that's...........crap.......i think that should be moved to the "We write Angsty Goth poetry" or whatever. Some lines in the Co&Ca songs can sound emo (Pull the trigger and the nightmare stops) but still.....that doesn't mean they're emo.

p.s. Blaise, did you pick up the double disc dvd for Images and Words(live in tokyo)/5 Years In A Livetime?

DJ_Midnite
July 20th, 2004, 23:43

it's good. there's no jordan rudess playing though, but he does do band commentary. They show the two other keyboard players playing (Kevin Moore and Derek Shirinian) the Images and Words disc has Live Performances of Under A Glass Moon, Wait For Sleep, Surrounded, Ytse Jam, To Live Forever, A Fortune In Lies, Take The Time and Pull Me Under. There are also their music videos for Pull Me Under, Take The Time, and Another Day (My Favorite video). The 5YIAL disc has the music videos for Lie, The Silent Man and Hollow Years. It covers everything that happened from 1994-1998. There's some unplugged footage and footage from the "uncovered" at Ronnie Scotts. Mike, JP and JM play a song with Steve Howe from Yes and some other people. Over all, It's a great buy for the price. And if you do pick it up, make sure to watch it with the band commentary as well, it's hilarious and informative.

Playing on my Winamp Playist : Dream Theater - Home :D

p.s. Yes, I do actually have it. I pre-ordered it :D and got it 2 days after the release

Saves the day - Rocks Tonic Juice Magic

Let me take this awkward saw
And run it against your thighs
Cut some flesh away
I'll carry this piece of you with me
Because all I can say tonight
is that I hate you
But it would be all right

If we could see each other sometime
If I could somehow make you mine

And if not I'll take my rusty spoons
And I'll dig out your blue eyes
I'll swallow them down to my colon
They're gonna burn like hell tonight
Because your beautiful
Just not on the inside
Light comes from within
And your beaming eyes don't seem so bright

My heart is on the floor
Why don't you step on it?
When I think of
all the things you've done

Boardwalks and breaking waves
Made our Saturdays
I'd buy you lemonade right now
if you were here
But then I'd throw it in your face
And I'd listen to you cry
And I'd remember how I miss
our nights under ocean skies

i knew someone would post that. And that song is about killing someone else, not yourself. Saves the day kills alot of people in their songs. Check out "Through Being Cool"

End of story.

Coheed, however, is a good band, call them whatever you want, I enjoy their music, and hope that I can have a similar level of musical skill in my band when I eventually get it to gether.

Thank you.

As cliche as it may seem, I listen to Music (or as i spell/call it Musak). I listen to whatever appeals to my ears, Hell, I've had a song stuck in my head all day that was from a bad flash movie that was made on what seemed like a casio keyboard bought at K-mart for $9.99.

But ya, What im trying to get at, Dont categorize music or your doing nothing but feeding the corporations that want to make it easier to manufacture bands that appeal to a set number of people that are gaurenteed to listen to that music, I dont like to admit it, but Linkin Park is one of those bands, As good as they are, They were made to seem edgy while being nothing but "family fun nu rawk", Even though I do enjoy a LP song once and a while I dont think I can take hardcore LP fans seriously.

All those kids who listen to them and say "That song talked to me, It was about me!" Ya, you and everyone else that the producer was aiming for, It's a simple brainwashing game played by evil corporations.

In short, Dont let them tell you what music you listen to, Tell them that you listen to music!

I sort of agree with Blaise. Except... maybe he's going a little too deep into the "brainwashing conspiracy" thing. I listen to everything. And I mean EVERYTHING. Blue grass to rap to hardcore to techno it don't matter. So I listen to music.
