View Full Version : Manga Trading Night

Maybe we could have a night where people bring in their old mangas that they have read a million times and trade it with people who want it. With each book costing about 10 bucks these days, for only about an hour-two of manga-reading goodness, it's hard to get alot of it. So if we could have a night where people could bring in manga and trade it with others, we could at least be saving some money. Maybe TGA could charge like $5 to get into the "Trading Room" or something.

-love hina, vol. 6

How much, again? I am not that far into either series, but it would give me an excuse to fill the gap. ;)

[edit: Even better idea -- anyone have any h-manga they would be willing to get rid of? I could use some for mys^H^H^H^H ZOO^H^H^H^H Ell^H^H^H^H somebody.]

I don't collect tons of manga, and the ones I do collect I'll probably keep forever.

I've got an idea - a weekly manga night or something, where manga-reading-people all gather together and read manga for a couple of hours, and we can swap around for awhile. Like, if Dip wants to read my Negima volume 1, he can borrow that for the night, then I'll read something he has, and at the end of the night, we'll give them back. I think that'd be really fun, since manga is the greatest thing in the universe. =D

sorry, i'm never there. :/ maybe if bryan heads up there one day...

and mega, which manga series DO you have? lol i dunno if i wanna borrow something if i dunno what you have. ^^;;

i have 100+ manga, but they're mostly shoujo. XD cuz shoujo is the best. and i dunno if i'd be willing to lend them out...the past times i've lent them they got returned to me all beat up. :/ i take as good care of them as i can, but other people just see them as something to be used, so they're not as careful with them. manga insurance maybe? lol.

here are the series that i read, but it's not completely updated...

All I have are:

Love Hina
Battle Royale
Kare Kano
Ranma 1/2 (the older ones...I think up to #8 or so)
Megatokyo

That might be it. I forget.

I collect lots of non-Japanese graphic novels too. Sandman and Strangers in Paradise are the best ever. And I think they're releasing the latter in manga format starting in a few weeks, so you should all get it, especially if you like shoujo manga.

Shoujo is the best. XD

that's right! ;-; *fist in the air* for some reason all the manga-reading men i've met think they should only be reading mecha and perverted comedy series. @_@ but shoujo is more interesting, i think (the majority of the time, anyway).

Boys' anime/manga kind of gets boring to me, for the most part. I mean, there are some good series, but it can sometimes get a little repetitive and over the long run, it doesn't seem like there's as much emotion or character. Well, unless it's like Love Hina where it's kind of like shoujo but with a ton of fanservice. I dunno, so far, I think Kare Kano is my favorite. I probably am not as into the whole manga/anime thing as a lot of you are though.

hm...kare kano was actually one of the least exciting ones for me. @@; i still like it (i do own it, after all), but i dunno...it didn't grab my attention as much as others. for example, kodocha has a lot of emotion but it's also one of the more hilarious series i've gotten into. paradise kiss is all around good...a little far-fetched, but you can still relate to it easily. the humor is great, and the story pulls you in, plus the art is gorgeous. chobits is wonderful, one of my favorites by CLAMP. very cute. lament of the lamb so far is really good for a dark story, which i enjoy from time to time. :] i don't know if it's considered shoujo, though...probably not. but it definitely very interesting.

i haven't finished kare kano, though...i think i'm on volume 5 or 6. i was hoping the story would pick up. does it? :/

Yes it does by 8,9 and 10. It gets awesomely good!

Of the ones you mentioned, I've only read/seen Chobits, and it was...ok. I dunno, I think I just like the realism and attention to the little things more than whatever antics the characters get into next. Kare Kano does pick up, but it's still sort of regular old high school life. I took a glance at Confidential Confessions at the bookstore the other day, and that might be the next series I pick up.

I've got a few non-manga books to get out of the way first, though.

lol, but you can get through manga in 1/1000th of the time it'd take you to finish a book. :p confidential confessions is really good, btw. sometimes i like short stories more than an entire series. hm...maybe you'd enjoy mars? it's good, and concievable...but kinda long. 15 volumes.

Just because there aren't any pictures doesn't mean it's boring!

O_o; never said it was. i just said it takes longer to finish a book than it takes to finish a graphic novel. which is true. my only problem with books is that i get too eager to know what happens next (actually, this happens to me with any story), so i actually get impatient sometimes because i can't finish a book in less than a day. ^^; it takes me too long to finish books since i don't have the time to read them 24/7...but any given manga would take me like a half an hour to finish. ^_^ so i'm all satisfied quicker.

ishbo: hmm...really? i actually don't remember it being all that funny...they had the occasional comic relief, but mostly it was drama drama drama. @_@; poor kids. but if you wanna read something hilarious i highly, highly, highly, highly recommend kodocha and eerie queerie. it's increadible how much those have made me laugh histarically.

Hey, manga is wicked cool! :D
These are the series I've read/have in semi-chronological order:
Sailor Moon : Mostly just watched the anime, but I have a couple issues of it somewhere
Card Captor Sakura : I never bought this, but I borrowed it and it was really cute
Magic Knight Rayearth : I've read Vol. 1 of this, but I never found the other ones T_T
Chobits : I read up to Vol. 7 of this ... all from borrowing from friends. ^^;
Marmalade Boy : Wooh, the only series I've ever completed!! I have about 5 of the issues I bought on my own and I borrowed the others
Kodocha : I only got up to Vol. 3, but I love this one n_n
Paradise Kiss : OMG. One of my favourites ever. I have Vol 1, 2, & 5.
Di*Gi*Charat : I have Vol. 2-4 (borrowed 1) and this is my favourite series :D
Fruits Basket : Have Vol. 1 and 2 and I can't wait for them to release more :p
Pita-Ten : I just got the Vol. 1 a few weeks ago, it's great tho ^~

...I know there's more but I cant think of them now ~_~
My favourite artist is Koge-Donbo (Di*Gi*Charat, Pita-ten), but I haven't heard of a lot of other people that like her :o

Yeah, but then you have to go buy the other 19 books in the series to finish the story. ;)
