I am really interested in holding a charity based ddr event and wondering if it would be possible to hold it at TGA. The event would most likely be towards the end of the summer and would comprise of all the proceeds earned going towards cancer, or another charity. I think this would bring a great turn-out and hopefully it can be held at TGA. If it could be possible to talk to Andy I'm sure I could get everything sorted out with cost and fundraising ideas. If TGA would like to sponsor this it would be greatly appreciated!

I know Andy is a big advocate of helping others and TGA did sponsor an event that was held for Lukemia. If we can find a charity worth dancing for, hell I'd be up there for a while. Really Brandon, it's all about the marketing, if we make this happen, we have to not just tell the dance community but the community around TGA as well.
Great idea though, I'll do my best to see this gets done.

When this goes down. I am in. No Question.
If we do end up aiding a charity for cancer, I will hug you.
(I have a soft spot for those charities... my Father passed away from Skin Cancer)
And I will dance for hours straight if it helped =)
Lemme know man. Keep me posted.

Well I have decided cancer. My grandfather actually passed away from cancer and I recently discovered my best friend has cancer. I have no idea where I can obtain information concerning donations and such, can anyone help me out here? I need to know as to where to send the money (do I have a collection envelope, or what?). I would say the money would be going to the National Cancer Society. Is there any way to contact them and provide them with information on what we are doing?
I would think this would be great to have at the end of August. I'm not too specific on the exact date (are we still pending on a confirmation?).
Here's a few ideas: Maybe the DDR machine can be set on Free play. I did declare this as a ddr-a-thon, so maybe to play ddr it could be 10 dollars per person. This 10 dollars would go directly to charity. People who wished to play DM, IIDX, or DMX would pay an additional 10 dollars perhaps going to TGA depending on what works. 5 for charity and 5 for TGA. I sort of feel obligated for TGA to get something out of this as well because Andy would be letting us use the arcade for the entire day.
If TGA would like to donate all the money earned that day to cancer we sure could make a lot. I'm sure the same prices would work. 20 for all machines all day. That 20 would go directly to charity.
Any other suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Once I get confirmation on this (which kinda seems I do) plans can get started. We should start a thread with people going as to "sign them up."
I also feel that people could bring food and drink or we could all just go out to eat later.
EDIT: Ok, I just contacted the American Cancer Society about donations and what to do. Hopefully it will provide enough information. I anticipate a response no latter than next week so....yeah. I'll post when I receive their message.

Okeydokey. I like this idea. But if a lot of people show up, then there would be less and less opprotunity for people to dance for long hours for a cause. And also, it's only partially the dancing that is cause for the donation. That idea TOTALLY WORKS THOUGH!
I think that, perhaps, we could make this an even BIGGER DEAL by getting big company sponsors, and having people PLEDGE HOURS and sign up for those hours and they are GUARANTEED that time slot unless they do not show up. People would also get friends and family to sponsor them, so perhaps, $5 every hour you pledge from your parents, and $10 every hour from your grandma or something. It could be even bigger that way, and also, we'd get to play more DDR!
Either way works though and I'll be glad to donate no matter what method you choose.

Hey, that sounds like a pretty good idea. If we did something like that this event would probably be held in December or so (xmas vacation). Something of that caliber would involve a lot of time to collect pledges and everything. That's def a great idea cause it would give time for everyone to play ddr. People would sign up for time slots and those two people would play for an hour or so. That would probably have to be an over night thing just like the relay for life, but if that could work that would be awesome.

Ok, this is the message I received
Your request for information has been forwarded to an income development specialist and you will be contacted shortly with more information. Please know that you may also contact the American Cancer Society directly at the following location:

If I could do it, count me in just got to find out if it does happen if I can go. Once it got put together I bet everyone together could make a good amount of money to donate to the Cancer Foundation and I am sure lots of people would attend also.
