Evolution 2004 (http://www.evo2k.com) is the weekend of July 29th to August 1st. So a date before that would be ideal. Talking to Andy about this, the date is July 24th (same day as the IIDX tournament (http://www.tokyogameaction.com/forums/showthread.php?t=447)). Signups start at Noon (when the store opens), the tournament proper starts at 2 PM.

Ten dollars to enter -- five torward the pot, five torward the store as a cover charge. The cover charge is only for the consoles, so unless you pay the extra money (I -think- it is an additional five dollars -- mainly because that is the only sane way to get the prices to line up with the IIDX tournament), DO NOT play any of the arcade games there (DDR, DMX, DM, etc.). You will be thrown out without any of your money refunded. People who have already entered and paid for the IIDX tournament only have to pay the five dollars for the pot.

The rules would be the same as the ones at Evolution:

Game Settings
Mode: Standard Versus Mode
Rounds: Best 3 out of 5
Round Time: 50 seconds
Nuetral Guard: On
Life Guage: 100%
Stage Select: Off (Random)

Banned Characters / Glitches / Costumes / Stages
Necrid and console specific characters (Spawn, Link, Heihachi) are banned! All other characters including Assassin, Berserker, Charade, Lizardman, Seung Mina, and Sophitia are allowed and legal in the tournament.
3P Character Costumes are banned due to slowdown issues on PS2 version. If another console version is used, this rule will be ommitted.
Windmill (aka Gears/Clock) stage will be banned due to slowdown issues on PS2 version. If this stage comes up the players must reselect using the same characters. If another console is used, this rule will be ommitted.
Attack Throws Cancels (ATC): e.g. Astaroth's [K]:K and 4[A] ATCs.
Lizardman's Reptile Rumble (214B+K) Throw. Unescapable, safe, and can be cancelled to numerous followups.
Seung Mina's Camera Glitch (and other assorted camera glitches).

Legal Glitches
All Step/Evasion techniques: Step G, Slide Step, etc..
All 2G/G2 techniques: NC/NCC Escape, 2G Post GI guard, Stance cancels, etc..
Throw Escape Recovery (TER).
All Just Frames (JF) including Back Turned JFs, Natural Combo (NC) JFs, etc..
Just Frame Chickens (JFC) (aka GI-chicken).
Back Turned Recovery Cancel (BTRC) (aka Voldo Recovery Cancel (VRC)).
Infinites: e.g. Voldo's Mantis Crawl Rush infinite and Taki's Poison Dart infinite. These aren't true infinites and are escapable. This also includes Ivy's 33A/99A infinite which is not escapable.
Anything else not listed as a banned glitch.

Once you get a set date with Andy, we'll move this over to the regular Events forum. :]

I'd be down. :)

I'd obviously say no PS2 version, but I guess PS2s are more easily found than any of the other consoles. We'll see.

I'd be down for some Capcom tournies on DC, but I dunno if we'd have the proper equipment.

I can supply a Gamecube for this if needed, Id agree with Chris on this with trying to keep PS2s out, But the factor is ganna be which console people are familiar with, I am only familiar with Gamecube controls, Although I have played it on the Xbox once, So I could probably adapt to that.

Well, I would actually prefer an arcade stick. I have one for GC, but not for the other two.

I hear that, but most serious players play on the PS2, and their equipment (custom sticks and whatnot) tend to be made with the PS2 in mind. I am personally trying to stay away from the GameCube version; converters on that system tend to feel lagged by a frame or two. I have not noticed this probelm on the XBox version.

That's why the clocktower stage and 3P outfits are banned for the PS2 version (even then there is still slowdown, but not nearly as often). I also think a couple of the 3P outfits have other issues (like Seung Mina's, where her skirt is so damn big it hides any lower-body movement, making her more difficult to read), but that is just me.

I would say get as many Xbox's as possible since Xbox is a beast when it comes to things liek this, It is built to not lag, Well atleast most of the time

According to Dip, this is definitely going to happen, so I have upgraded it to an event.

This could be interesting to me, given a definite date and time. As far as consoles go, I'm most familiar with PS2, so that'd be my vote, but whatever...

The date is July 24th -- same day as the IIDX tournament. It is scheduled to start at 2 PM. [let me edit that post with details]

....

I was going to say something about all of the noise, then I realized that this place is a freakin arcade. As long as the Bemani games are not cranked to max volume, I can deal.

I'd say which console version wouldnt matter, as long as we got some arcade sticks.

So uhh, who won and stuff? I'm linda curious to see how well I stack up against the people who did well. I was a little disappointed that I couldn't go, but I had a wonderful day doing other stuff, so it was worth it.
