ID 4 is now officially confirmed for TGA! Sega advised us that the release is targeted for late spring. If all goes according to plan, we should be the first in New England to get it.

Thanks

Andy

Now that we all know TGA will be getting ID4, I am extremely curious... will the Japanese ID cards work for the US version? I really don't want to start over if I don't have to, I've almost finished maxing out my EVO here in Tokyo.

And since I'm asking about memory cards, will the IIDX e-AMUSE cards from Japan work witht he US released version? I really hope so... Odds are no one will know this answer for sometime, but I'd figure I ask anyways.

Thanks.

well there was a discussion before about this and we all suggestted that Andy get a US version of IDAS4 because of the fact that the Japanese version and US version do not work both ways with the cards. The reason being is because, lets say you had your Full Tune card and found another IDAS4 machine, it's most likely going to be US not Japanese. Later when TGA decides to hold IDAS4 tournaments, most players are going to be using US cards not Japanese.

So to answer your question again, no it's not compatible with one another.

Any idea on IIDX Gold? I hear rumors that it will be compatible.

This is off topic from ID4, but I'm pretty sure that the "e-amuse World Pass" is true to it's name. But as of April 16th, 2007, there is only one game (Supernova) that the World Pass could potentially work on. And there is a grand total of 1 Supernovas hooked up to the service outside of Japan.

Thank you kind sirs.

now continue with the discussion of ID4 goodness!

I havn't posted here in a while but I thought I'd let everyone know that I talked to Andy about V4, and he is a bit skeptical about it. I had showed him the discussions on idforums with the guys that had actually played it. They had said that the game gets old very quickly and that there is never a crowd around the game. After reading that and seeing videos of this game, I hope that Andy decides to go with V3. To me, V4 is a game that they threw together to get some money. Several courses and cars are gone. I havn't felt excited for this game after I saw videos of it in action. Anyone else feel the same?

Really?? I actually think it looks really nice. However I am dissappointed with the amount of cars, I figured that they were going to add more. With the online play and such though, I think that'll make it loads of fun because Battle Gear 3 had the online battle thing too and that made it really successful.

The graphics looks great and the added realism is going to make the game more interesting.

I still play IDASV2 at Goodtimes(Sadly) but still aren't bored of it. I play A LOT, spent over $1000 by now. I'm a hardcore player though that actually gets into the details of real life racing techniques and analysis of the physics. After that making theories and testing out those theories in live testing. It's not just me though, most of my Initial D buddies are like this.

I hope that it all follows through, and especially since IDASV4 is going to be the next set of IDAS machines everyone is going to move onto, I definitely rather go with v4 than v3. I don't think I'd make the trip as often to Winchendon for a mere v3 machine all day play or not.

Just to throw my thoughts on the subject...

I am a big IDv3 player, so of course I was excited to hear about v4. Its been out in Japan for about 4-5 months now, and the version thats out is completely different from the other versions. One thing to keep in mind is that v4 is not just a simple upgrade as the past 3 versions have been - its a completely reworked game for Sega's Lindenbergh(sp) board. Its essentially a new game, with the same title(think Street Fighter 3 to Street Fighter EX - same title, completely new game). Some of the big v3 players do not like the changes, some do.

For one, v4 has taken out about 13 cars, the car list went from 35 in v3 to 22 in v4(although 3 have been added to the beta english v4 - great news). In addition to that, they reworked one course to be more realistic, added two new courses(one is a fictional beginners course), but removed 3 courses(one that was one of the 4 original tracks in the series since in v1, and 1 track new to v3 that was arguably a fan favorite track - the source of some disappointment). There have been a whole slew of new customization options added, however. You can modify your car with several aftermarket parts from over 15 manufacturers - V3 had about 3-4 parts options per car. Also, you can customize your avatar displayed on your card and while you race others. There is also a new online battle mode, and also an online team database.

Besides the removal of tracks and cars, the main disappointment was the changes to the physics system. Initial D is about drifting, and v4 has been made WAY more drifty then 1-3. This is good. However, what alot of people are complaining about is that because its so drifty now, the fastest way to take corners is not to slow down and take corners cleanly(as you do in most racing games). Rather, the fastest way is to take corners at full gas and RAPE the inside wall of the corner and lose speed. The wall penalty is non-existant at speeds less then 140 KPH, so this has become how most pros tackle the corners. For turns faster then 140 KPH, traditional braking and what not are applied, but this is maybe 1-2 corners per track. This turns Initial D v4 into a game much more like Cruisin World then a technical hardcore racing game that v1-3 were. Some like it, some don't.

Myself, I don't like how it sounds, but I'll reserve my opinion for when I actually play the game.

Yea I have heard some complaints. The main 2 complaints often heard is, it's too drifty, and that it's too realistic?. Kinda weird since they are kinda contradictory. The thing I'm looking forward to is the fact that they fixed the glitch hax lol like tst and force-quit.

I'm just going to have to play it myself. It seems like this new Initial D is more aesthetically pleasing to compete with Maximum Tune. A lot of old ID players moved onto maximum tune, but all of them had said the same thing to me, "Initial D is too hard". They moved to Maximum Tune for the aesthetics and the more mindless racing.

What's funny is that people use to complain how you can't relaly drift in the older versions, and then in this one they say that they don't like the added driftiness lol. I have no opnion on that yet since I haven't played. I'm looking forward to tournaments at TGA for Initial D :D

We'll see what happens with V4 though when it's available at TGA.

THANK YOUS ^_^. I was wondering a few things. Is the US version (your machine in particular) of the game going to be online? And also If you know, what's the pricing on the game? I only ask that because I want to budget my ID playing to the MAXX...thanks in advance :)

Games should be $1.00 each, per person, per game. Cards will be $5.00, and of course you can play ID4 and everything else as much as you want, all day for $25. Unfortunately, the game won't be online in the US.
