Now that the official release of the Tougeki -Super Battle Opera list has been announced, I decided to open a thread to the debut of freshest new fighting game released by a group of ex-SNK developers that worked on previous Samurai Spirits title, one was which was in the previous SBO.

Looks pretty interesting. All girls (just how Master Chibi likes it), Slower than GGXX but still impliments aerial combos and other crazy shit like some new card system that gives your character an arsenal of diffrent moves.
Check this article i came across from one of the first test locations in Japan.

I'm not too keen on the art. But i'd rather see how it plays first.
also, while we're on the topic of new fighters... look up battle fantasia. :P

I play that at my local arcade, it has the weirdest learning curve, at least for me. The feel of the game is just, uuuuhh, yeah can't really couldn't explain it from a professional view, but it feels like a cross between RF2 and KOF. It's good once you get used to it, I suppose... this game might not last in Japan. Personally I love it, its right up my ally, but I can see American gamers hating on it though, like Rumble Fish 2. :'(
Now since you folks know about it, I think I’ll start practicing it. I would of never expected Tougeki to recognize this game.

Few people play it in Japan. The game might be broken, there's still arguments over it atm on the boards.
Basically they (wapanese ppl) all say it's terrible to some degree, and I would have to agree since I've beaten it both in story and arcade mode in record time by mearly button smashing at times, then again the AI sucks. Although I do like the comboing and specials, the frame gaps between each attack are well... too open. There are points where you can knock off more than 1/2 of their life before they can even recover, let alone perry.
You can probably still discredit me, since I don't play much fighting games, but there is no way you can discredit the masses. It's been getting a thumbs down in general. I'll ask for Genki's opinion, he'll have the final word on it.
So yeah it does suck, BUT! I still love the game and will continue to play it. <3

Few people play it in Japan.
this is the 2nd most played fighting game today with meltyblood being 1st. people line up playing it in places.
I've beaten it both in story and arcade mode in record time by mearly button smashing at times.
it is called "renda" and it also works on meltyblood. it is one of a trick.
frame times between each attack are well... too open. There are points where you can knock off more than 1/2 of their life before they can even recover
also applies to meltyblood. the attacks are not designed tobe all-round. tricky attacks takes more time to recover.
guilty gear have fewer players compared to those two games.
percent of players are like this.
meltyblood 35%
arcana 30%
guiltygear 20%
hokuto 10%
other games 5%
btw where are you in tokyo? lets meet up and have some matches :)

Maybe I should be a little more sharp since you are with me.

It's called "new games" and when I mean no one plays it, I mean no one good plays it.

also applies to meltyblood. the attacks are not designed tobe all-round. tricky attacks takes more time to recover. And that's also why meltyboold has the same problems
and
And that's also why GuiltyGear has been patched more than once.

For the sake of avoiding any further argument, because I don't like this already, I will cease to debunking you and leave the rest to others. Plus I really have no place in the fighting world to say anything more personally.
On another note, I live near Ueno and would love to meet a fellow TGA'er. You play the Bemani'z? That's what I'm knowledgeable and decent in.

It's called "new games" and when I mean no one plays it, I mean no one good plays it.
enough good players are on it now. kubo, bandana and etc.
The who the what now? I didn't know button smashing was a skill.
it is designed tobe smash-able, hence skill.
And that's also why meltyboold has the same problems
and
And that's also why GuiltyGear has been patched more than once.
even with accentcore, it cant go over meltyblood in term of number of players.
Link to these stats plz
go ask your nearest kakuge-senmon japanese friends and you will probably get the same result, those percentages are made up by me though
i lived in ueno since three months ago.
now in akabane.
i only play drummania though.
fighting games are my main play.

What. I hate questioning this when you're ~9,000 miles closer, but it seems like Arcana Heart right now is getting as much burn as Melty Blood and Guilty Gear in Japan right now, from what my gaijin ass can make of it. If nothing else, the Arcadia earnings reports (http://www.arcadiamagazine.com/) back me up on this:
1. That Damn Gundam Game - 254.3 / pts.
2. Guilty Gear XX Accent Core - 236.3 / pts.
3. Tekken 5 DR - 200.3 / pts.
4. Arcana Heart - 148.2 / pts.
5. Melty Blood: Act Cadenza ver.B - 144.2 / pts.
6. Virtua Fighter 5 Version A - 114.2 / pts.
7. Mushihime-sama Futari - 76.1 / pts.
8. Street Fighter III: Third Strike - 50.1 / pts.
9. Fist of the North Star - 49.8 / pts.
10. Senko no Ronde SP - 47.3 / pts.
(Damnit where did Tetris the Grandmaster 2 go). They don't actually show earnings numbers because no operator wants to let those stats go, so they're all normalized to some arbitrary point.
These numbers seem to vary quite a bit, but you consistently see the same fighters in the top 10.
Although I do like the comboing and specials, the frame gaps between each attack are well... too open.
See that D button? The one where if you hit it you go flying forward during the recovery of a move? You should try using it. Homing cancels are nice like that.
(Unless you're fighting Kamui or Kohona, then you're right, but that's because they're extra stupid.)
As for having the same problem in Melty Blood, may I suggest ending all of your blocked sequences with a standing A attack. Doing that makes pretty much any sequence safe on block.
I think your core point (that the game isn't that great) is at least somewhat correct, and I expect the play it gets to slow down once Tougeki passes, but at that point they'll announce a sequel or an update and people will be hype for it again. I would say no one would be playing Melty Blood right now if the game had not gotten an update, but people are still playing FotNS...)

one thing id like to say is people are hating the verB update.
Why? From my personal experience (and I've played quite a bit of it) it seems like a fairly well implemented update, and all of the players I've talked to agree with that.
Do people miss Sion's infinite that badly?
mirekavip
February 4th, 2007, 01:21
the thing is. while all other strong characters got nerfed. sion only got her infinite removed, but other attacks are stronger.
now if you compare sion in VerA and VerB, if VerA doesnt use infinite, verB is stronger.

What? They nerfed Sion's damage quite a bit, by making 5[C] scale on each hit and reducing the damage (making all of her corner loops do a lot less damage), and added scaling on a bunch of other normals (A DP, B whip, etc.).
That statement about ver.B Sion being stronger overall may be true, but it's only because of the extended range on 2B and 3B and the changes they made to 6B and 5A.
-V.Akiha didn't get nerfed at all. She's tooooo good, if anything.
-Satsuki got nerfed hard so el oh el at her.
-R.Arc had some minor damage reductions and her j.B hitbox was shrunk, but she's still no joke. Probably right below V.Akiha and Sion.
-Shiki's backdash got nerfed (it was absurdly stupid in ver.A), and his average damage got turned down, but I think his overall nerfing is overstated (or not -- where the hell did all of the Shiki players go?)
Never mind they upgrades they gave to characters like Nanaya and Aoko (and M-Hisui, but that just brings her up from trash to low-tier).

let me fix some misunderstandings
-V.Akiha didn't get nerfed at all. She's tooooo good, if anything.
236A/B range reduction
-R.Arc had some minor damage reductions and her j.B hitbox was shrunk, but she's still no joke. Probably right below V.Akiha and Sion.
jB hitbox expansion
-Shiki's backdash got nerfed (it was absurdly stupid in ver.A), and his average damage got turned down, but I think his overall nerfing is overstated (or not -- where the hell did all of the Shiki players go?)
sadly to say, now almost all shiki players moved to either other character or arcana heart.
being a shiki player myself almost get me quit meltyblood and move to arcana heart also.
