what happened there?
The ITG players went *stomp* *stomp* *stomp* *stomp* *stomp* *stomp* *stomp* *stomp* *stomp* *stomp* *stomp* *stomp* *stomp* and someone won everyone else's money on a bunch of hard songs.
The DDR players went *stomp* *stomp* *stomp* *stomp* *stomp* *stomp* *stomp* *stomp* *stomp* *stomp* *stomp* *stomp* *stomp* and someone who had about 3 SDGs in his whole life got 6 of them and won on a bunch of easy songs.

Hrm.
That seems to be quite light in terms of stomping for an ITG tournament. Normally the tournament report would be full of pages of it.

Seriously though, my opponents were awesome. I'll give each of them a paragraph.
Eric is about at my level. I know from previous tournaments. Last time I played against him it was in Leominster (2003) and he beat me in Holic 10-6 or something like that. Interestingly enough, not only did we meet again in the ladder, but we played a set of 3 songs together before the tournament. He beat me on all 3 songs! And, one of them was Holic again, on roulette. It must be fate. I forget what we played or what the scores were, but I won 2-0. For the third song, which we played anyway, we picked Ska Ska No 3. Eric said that it was his best song. We had played it earlier and he won 12-21. The second time he won 3-9. (And he got the machine record.) So I guess it's a good thing we didn't play best of 5. So next time it could be Eric that knocks me out of the top 16!
And then Clay, I should've never beat Clay. First he picked Can Be Real and I narrowly won 10-11. Then I picked Star Gate Heaven. That song is kind of like Tears, but without Noria and with Sota instead of Taka. After I picked that song I saw the machine record: "RAOH - 9,100,000". That's Clay. Oops. Somehow I won 9.5 million to 9.3 million. I don't know how. Clay has multiple 9.9 million scores on Supernova so I have no idea how 10 greats could win on Can Be Real. I was just really lucky. Clay also told me what his secret weapon for the final match was, and I played it later that evening, and I couldn't even AA it.
The other two quarter finalists were Andrew and John. Andrew spent part of the night over on DDR Extreme crossing items off of his "TODO: AAA" list. (He showed me his list. Lots of things were crossed off.) I remember seeing John play Vertex^2 expert doubles a few times. John also placed in the ITG tournament. I remember watching Andrew sightread Moon with a AAA on his first day of playing Supernova. (Which was also my first day playing Supernova.) Also, in their random tiebreaker song, they had as many greats combined on Exotic Ethnic as I would get in the first 100 steps. They also played that song that I had scored 9.5 million on against Clay and raised the machine record another 200,000 points on top of that! I was beat heardcore. And this is the truth - I thought to myself "I've never made it to the quarter finals or finals before. Wow. I'm used to playing against the guy who ends up winning, but usually in the first round."
So John is higher seed and he picks Mobo*Moga. I win 3-6. It happened about that fast. I think what John was thinking was that since I had never AAAed anything in my whole life, and since I had just scored 10 greats on Can Be Real, Mobo*Moga should be an easy win. But I have AAAed Mobo*Moga at home and it just sort of translated. Cool. Then I pick Passion of Love, which is a home version song with a tempo change that I've also AAAed at home, and win 7-11. John was a good sport and he told me that he was happy that this was my first time winning anything. (I know Eric and Clay personally so they don't get graded on sportsmanship. They're my friends. Of course they were nice too.)
I hope nobody reads this and thinks that I'm just praising my opponents to make myself look better. I'm really not. What you're supposed to be thinking about me right now is "What a lucky bastard, and why didn't John clobber him with The Legend of Max?" Two very good points.
I did have an advantage though. Since I was lower seed, always, my opponents had to pick first. I didn't qualify low on purpose. My wimpy 9.3 million on No. 13 just didn't hold up. Anyway, neither of my first two opponents played their secret weapons against me. They were correctly saving them for the next round. I've already explained why Eric and Clay had a very good reason to assume that they'd beat me anyway. However, I'll never get away with that again. For one thing, if I ever see John agian, he'll beat me over the head with LoM or something. We don't even have to be playing DDR. He'll just be walking around with a giant replica of LoM's banner made out of sheet metal and he'll beat me over the head with it 'til I drop unconscious, which will take one hit. Then he'll drag me (unconscious) over to ITG, drop me on the pad, and walk all over me for hours. Yay dance games! :)

allen is correct in his assumption that i figured i'd be able to beat him at mobo moga because i didn't realize he was gonna sdg it .... anyways ... i figured i wasn't going to play a song like LOM or something retarted like paranoia respect (which billy brown paid me a dollar to AA then pass a second time) just because i figured i'd known allen for a little bit and i didn't want to seem ... well .. selfless? i figured if im going to win then i should be able to win on PA not on making him tired and unable to compete with my stamina .... thats what itg is for ... lol congrats again allen ... but you're right ... i won't let it happen a second time, you can bet on it ;)
