It has come to my attention that groups of people will be coming to TGA for bowling and other TGA type activities this Sunday October 29th, 2006.

So if you are the cosplaying type, please come join us for a day of fun music, bowling, games and other usual crazy TGA stuff that happens when large groups of people get together.

To sweeten the deal, I'll do this:

ANYONE WHO COMES IN COSTUME GETS A FREE HOUR OF BOWLING WITH THEIR PAID FLAT RATE!

There are some rules:

Your costume has to be a "real costume". By a "real costume" I mean something that took a genuine amount of effort on your part and was creative Also, please make sure your costumes are family oriented, i.e. no naked people running around, Anthony has enough of that as his house already.

Thanks everyone!

Andy

Unfortunately I won't be going. A friend of mine invited me to a cosplay party at Tokyo Kid and it happens to be on the same day. However I will be coming on Saturday so I'll bring my costume then.

Me cosplay Baiken? An interesting idea. I'd like to cosplay Baiken, but at the moment I don't have the time/money to get a costume together. (I'm cosplaying Johnny because that costume is already partly assembled.) Tell you what DeMarcus. I'll cosplay Baiken for Anime Boston, and If I get the costume finished early I'll bring it to TGA's December Ranbat.(or some other cosplay worthy event.)

No offense or anything, but NO. You don't have the ill sword skills... or the smoking habit.

That sounds like a real good way to reinforce every goddamn stereotype about GG players in the community.

It's not necessary to have all the abillities and habits of whomever you cosplay. Heck It's impossible in many cases since many characters have abilities that don't exist in the real world.

Do you have something against cosplay in general, or do you feel it's inappropiate for tournaments?

That GG players are animu watching, basement dwelling, doujin fapping fanboys with less than zero social skills.

Do you have something against cosplay in general, or do you feel it's inappropiate for tournaments?I may or may not have problems with cosplayers. :V

Yes, I do think that showing up to the next ranbat in costume (as anyone!) would be poor form. The act in and of itself does not bother me -- if you went and cosplayed at an anime convention, I don't care (although if you're cosplaying as Jam or Dizzy or the like I'm staying far away, but that's another matter). However, I think doing that in this setting would do more harm than good for the community as a whole.

he just wants to cosplay Akiha...
My chest is too big to do that. :V

umm you dont know what the hell your talking about... cosplay embraces the community... in fact it applauds... and btw... at tougeki a guy cosplayed elena for god sakes... and everyone loved him...

saying that...are animu watching, basement dwelling, doujin fapping fanboys with less than zero social skills. that freaking sentance can be applied to any fandom in gaming or anime you tard...

oh no dressing up as a character would damage the moral fabric of guilty gear forever [in america, no TEH WARUDO!] oh noes!!!! (god i felt like clay for a minute)

We are dealing with two different communities here. Cosplay may accept the community, but this community certainly does not accept cosplay (from my experience, anyway).

Bringing in the Tougeki example is a bad example, as that is a completely different situtation. However, I had heard differently about that (and the other guy who was dressed up as a maid... he was a Melty Blood player, standard). I do know this, though: the organization that runs Comiket specifically asks showgoers to not travel to the show in costume (they want them to change into costume on-site). They want to to cosplay on-site, but not in the general public. It's a little thing called context...

You're telling me that the perception of core players of other games (by players of those said games -- Tekken, Capcom fighters, whatnot) are the same as they are of GG players? That's bullshit. I know several people that were interested in giving the game a shot, but were put off by the weirdness of the playerbase.

No, it will just get your mercilessly insulted by a group of people that are also a subset of people that you are trying to get to play the game. What good does that do for anybody?

Well your experience argues with mine... so I could give a crap about your just as much as you care about mine... not here to split credentials anyways (cause i'd pwn anyways lol)...

Meh... a tournament's a tournament albeit the biggest one... a lot of small to mid range tourney's have people cosplaying... in fact the tourney this month at gu are having cosplayers going... the tekken tourney later this month down south is having cosplayers going (not official but their own accord)

that has no application to this... what are you trying to say... cosplay at tga, but don't go outdoors? Cause the winchendon mall might get scared...

No what im saying is that your core argument insulting players can be applied to any general fandom... theres doujins for 3s, mvc, tekken, gg, and all fighters... there's no specific difference in anime watching among any fighter... and anyone can say we have no social life so saying that is generic and inneffective as an argument...

No, it will just get your mercilessly insulted by a group of people that are also a subset of people that you are trying to get to play the game. What good does that do for anybody?

no it won't and hell if it does... fuck it... your talking to a guy whos done anything from fursuitting to crossplay... I could give a shit... and cosplayers whether at cons, events, tourneys, or even real life have to deal with people who are weirded out... shit that dosent apply to your (how did you put it... oh yea) are animu watching, basement dwelling, doujin fapping fanboys with less than zero social skills mb community... (lol watch me ddr)

hell I have a couple of friends who cosplay everyday... whether to work or school... that's just how they express themselves... which is what it should be about... not your dickwagging superiority...

Wow my post about cosplying Baiken has caused a full blown cosplay debate.

While I understand some people will be weirded out by cosplay, I don't see any reason why I shouldn't cosplay at TGA.
It's not like cosplaying in public is imoral (although people could be offended by provocative costumes). Cosplay just isn't considered a normal form of dress. Most people who don't like it, don't like it simply because It's not what the're used to.

Anyway unless there's a rule against cosplaying at TGA why not?

We are all for cosplaying at TGA, doesn't matter when or why. If you have a creative getup, wear it in :-)
