Dragon Warrior. Dumbest RPG ever?

I started to think about it in tga after a short disscusion between a few people began. I thought that Dragon Warrior (Quest) was the dumbest RPG ever. Think about it, you have to travel all around the world to get to the place right across the river. Why couldn't he take a boat! The stairs command was also foolish, and you automatically know spells at predetermined levels. It also starts you off so weak that you have to walk around for hours killing the same monsters, over and over again! I like RPG's but... Come on!

I have yet to play it but I'm not sure your post can deter me. Also, fighting the same monsters over and over for the first couple hours is what I do in every RPG so that wouldn't bother me too much.

I have only played Dragon Quest VIII out of all the games and I have a mixed opinion on it. I agree with the fact that your characters in the game are way too weak in the beginning and I hate the fact that the hero of the story doesn't even have a voice compared to other RPG's like Final Fantasy, Shadow Hearts, etc. It is a cool game though because of the art style in it and also the number of weapons you can use, but I feel that the monsters can kill you too quickly.

not to mention the fact that it came out in 1989 and along with final fantasy is one of the longest running rpg series right

what do u want for a game aproaching the 20 year old mark

oh and having to walk around for hours is called leveling and only adds to the game making it so u cant just piss thru it right away

Not 8. 1. Eight rocked hardcore and twenty years from now it'll still be untouchable.

But did anyone ever pickup Erdrick's Tablet? DQ is legendary in my mind and I'll defend it against anyone who knocks it, but Erdrick's Tablet. C'mon. Just for fun, everyone go start a new a game, level up to level 3, and invade the first cave. One of three things will happen:

1) You'll run out of torches. At lvl 3 you won't have the outside spell, either.
2) Monsters will kill you if you're lucky. Otherwise you'll have to soft reset.
3) You successfully find the tablet. :) Think about it.

And to make it worse "bump turn right" only works in the dragon's cave.
