"Light Yagami is an ace student with great prospects--and he's bored out of his mind. But all that changes when he finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and now Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. But when criminals begin dropping dead, the authorities send the legendary detective L to track down the killer. With L hot on his heels, will Light lose sight of his noble goal...or his life?"
At the suggestion of BrutalBrandon, I finally picked up the first two volumes of this manga. After reading even just the first chapter of Volume 1, I must say that it was well worth my money. The artwork is awesome, and just the premise of the manga is great :D. Anybody else read it / like it?
PS: Ryuk is my hero

I got the first one for Christmas, and bought the second one a few days later. Very good. A very interesting look at the arrogance of humans, what people do when they're given power, and the difference between right and wrong. I hope it moves deeper into a philosophical plot and not just some lame action.

I've been reading this since like, they previewed it in SJ. It is one of THE best mangas I've read so far. Chances are, If you've talked to me about manga, I've mentioned Death Note. I Highly suggest this title. Volumes 1-3 are now, with 4 slated to arrive in about 2 months. READ IT NOW.

...
No.
Death Note used to be the anti-SJ, but recently it seems like they've fallen into using lame plot twists.

One thing about Death Note that bugs me is the lack of depth shown in Riyuk. He doesn't speak often, and most of the time his dialogue is just used as a device to clarify Light's actions and make him look ridiculously smart.

>=]There's no excuse for having a hollow "main" character.
