Rules:
Standard Rules Apply. WE ALL KNOW THEM! if YOU don't just ask...
Double Elim tourney.

Why not set up a main FAQ for people who might be curious as to some of the rules that you call standard?

Is the tourney Double Elim because Robin Round would take too much time?

There is no need for FAQ's when I can answer whatever questions you have... Do you have any?...

Also the tourney is Double Elim bcause that's the standard. RR would take too long. EVO does "pools" only because of the amount of people that enter, and even those pools are still reg bracket system...

This post makes me happy :D I appreciate your efforts in not only trying to promote the tournament but to try and help people get into fighters. If anyone here wants to get into fighters please take AT up on his offer or ask any of our staff members to play / practice with you, they will be happy to do so.

Even if you are new to fighters, it's good to participate in tournaments or fighting game gatherings. Even if you don't win, or even come close, you will see awesome players which will show you what these games are capable of. Seeing some of the east cost beasts in action WILL inspire you to get into fighters and show you why we are into them so much. It's never to late to get on board.

Thanks

Andy

Shankar maybe Empire Arcadia, but it doesnt mean he's guilty by association on a bias based on the last tournament you went to that was hosted by the Empire. He's been running tournaments for years. Tekken 5 RI Regionals had 100+ people, Shankar did a pretty damn good job co hosting and taking care of business when shit hit the fan. Battle of the Borders 3 on 3 was perfection. Boston VGL was carried on by Shankar when he host failed to show up on time, he got the ball rolling and it was as smooth as can be.

Dont count this tournament out because it says "in association with" ....its just a ploy to promote the name of the Empire.

Bottom line, in no way am I saying that you were saying that it was his fault. Im just saying give this tournament a chance because it wasnt Shankar that messed up that last tournament you went to that was hosted by Empire Arcadia.

Count me in for Tekken 5, obviously.

Phoof, back from Montreal:

Sorry guys i haven't had the chance to post, but ahhhh....

TGA Staff: Good work on keeping the place runninnnnnn, makin me PR0UD! T_T

Josh/AMinorThreat: I'll take you up on that session, especially #r, i wanna learn the basics. And CvS2 i'm getting the hang of.

Nestor/Sage: Stop... if we teach you CvS2 you might be too good.

Shankar/RhodyJin: YOU'RE ALWAYS ON POINT! Too good too good.

Everyone else: GET PRACTICING! There is no excuse to not get better, you have plenty of people here to help you "button mashers" get better in fighting games. Don't be afraid to ask questions or learn some tips, we're ALL still learning.

I would totally go to this if Empire Arcadia was not invovled in it. I'm not to happy about how their leader run things.

What are you talking about?

... uhm yeah...

..Let me clear some things up. First of what ever it is that your not happy with TFGM about is none of my bussines. At the top of the thread it says "In assosiation with EA" because I AM part of Empire Arcadia.

This tournament is hosted trully by TGA. I was asked to run 2 of the 8 games. There are 2 other TGA employees running the tournament. I think Anthony is one of them, and Gavin reprezents the Whee Hee Heellll... crew! I am runnin Tekken 5 and MvC2... or is it Alpha 3... i forget lolz

One of the MANY things that Empire Arcadia does to help the Grater Gaming Cummunity evolve; Is help out as much as we can. So when Gavin asked me to Tourney Dir. I was more than happy to help the RI fighting community. Something I've been doing for years. There are many missconseptions about EA...

...So I hope you can change your mind about comming to the tourney!

Peace!

Shankar is just a fanboy
Yeah... well you're Ugly! and have a big nose :p!

June 18th, 2005, 18:54
The cynic in me want to scoffaw at all of the calls to 'get better,' just as a blatent play to get more dead money in the pot. Sure, learn a game in a month that people have been playing for years. Would you like to play some 500/900 Omaha while you are at it?

That would not be nice thing to say, however. I think (hope?) doing that is only a Rochester thing.

A serious question: how are casuals going to be handled? I am guessing for the arcade games it will just be pay to play with no cover charge, but what about Tekken? What if 3-4 people roll down with setups to throw down with? What if random unrelated games end up getting played? What about tournaments getting run on consoles and arcade cabinets? It's inconsistent, but the thought of a large CvS2 tournament on one machine makes me gag. What about unrelated game machines? Is TGA going to be P2P for the whole day during the tournament, with a small side fee for casuals?

Three staff members running four tournaments at once can not end well either (although more people will probably get involved during the event -- that always happens, and it is for the best).

I would ask for some side tournaments (whatever, from Smash Meele to Melty Blood ReACT to MK2), but it already seems like you are running a metric ton of events.

players to watch out for?

Aminorthreat: Former Ct #r champ is talented at many fighting games, from pulling off crazy custom combos in A3 and cvs2, beastly combos in T5, to one frame links with his scrub Slayer. never sleep on this little hobbit.

Smoothotk: Out from the outskirts of MA coming out when cvs2live was first introduced. This fierce player was recruited by Mukai (MA legend) to compete against the other players of this world and is becoming one of the most skilled pedoph.....i mean kgroove that has ever just defended in MA. One might even say his skills rival that of OTK straight from the land of the rising sun.

Mukai: This KOF champ is the oldest active player of the group. He has been around since the days when KOF and SF2 were still competitive and has yet to retire (the way of a true warrior). Mukai's games now are Rumblefish2, KOF neowave, 3S and dominates the land of Good Times day and day again. Respect this father of fighting games as he knows alot of history over New englands past and would not mind teaching you a thing or two over these games.

KJCX:This "harsh critic" and living cvs2 bible isnt afraid to tell you of what errors you have come by. He has traveled many places and has played many players like Justin wong, Ricky O, Rsigley, Nick T and even Tokido. If you dont watch out for his "choi" like skills he will kill you before you even see Ken's shortx2 super.

T Barnage: Current barnage MvC2/3S champ is not to be taken lightly and his rushdown skills with storm/sent and mag/storm/tron will leave you dead in the blink of an eye if you dont have good blocking skills. The original CT rushdown ken will super even a slight jab in a mere reaction.

Coco Savage: While true that he has powered down in his trip to his homeland canada this A3/CvS2/KOF98 champ ( top 10 at the 98' nationals in Hong Kong) has been around to many places and even lived in CA where he learned and originated many character play styles like Morrigan. If you want some old school challenge be sure to locate this player in your journey.

Darkside Phil: CT's monkeyspank like mukai has been around longer than alot of people now. Rival to Tony and Dru has beat many good players even during his "5th place curse". Now 29 the current CT SSF2T powers up on XBox live leading him to win the SF2:AE at ECC and still proves quite a worthy apponent in the array of fighting games still played today.

Rusheddown: Dont let this name fool you. RD does everything from fighting off PJC's leg humping dog to taking all your life with 1 juggernaut super. This man can even rush YOU down in SVC with his remarkable Demitri or crush your combo breakers with his unbreakables combos. The only thing that might defeat him would be the smell of CB's feet.

Sorry dude, its carved in like that.

*this is Gavin speaking*
This is only a suggestion and i'm pretty sure it'd make a whole lot of ppl happier if you do this.
You can take a 1 3/16" hole saw if you're using clip type buttons or a 1 1/4" if you're using screw type and then drill a hole right beneath the unused button on the far right then all you need to do is move all the buttons one spot to the right and bam you have a standard layout.
:D :p

*IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO ALL WHO ARE ATTENDING THE TOURNEY*

TGA has gone through some difficulties with the room setups. We might be limited on space during the Tekken 5 tournament. Just letting you guys know ahead of time that it can be a little bit cramped in there. We're really sorry for any inconvenience this may cause all who attend the event.

Sorry again,

You may be cramped for space?

If more than 15 people show up for this TGA is going to be absolutely ram-jammed. Last year it was pretty bad, and that was with the back room only having the IIDX machine and the center hallway being usuable. Now the back room is full of candy cabinets and the center hallway is gone.

Tomorrow is going to be a loooooooooooong day. (One machine for CvS2? I hope people are bringing sleeping bags.)

Naw Dippy, there will be good players there, matches will go fast. If you are gonna play the CvS2 tourney I'd advice ya to be there at noon sharp that whay you can lose and be about by 12:10. See, now don't things move fast?

hahaha, wow dip, clostrophobic(however u spell it)? Well hey if u dont want the good comp or if u dont wanna meet new people, thats fine. you dont have to complain to us about the room. If u think its gonna be a long day, then dont come. Please we can save room that way lol. One less person to worry about.

And plus, u dont PLAY CvS2, so hows that have anything to do with you? Let people speak for themselves if thats what ur trying to do.

I am just stating my opinion. I do think that TGA may have some severe problems regarding space and time with the way this event is turning out -- even with a relatively small number of people, running a tournament on one machines takes a long time. I also believe that given the expected turnout, that there is not nearly enough space at TGA as it stands to run an event of this size without some severe crowd control and space issues. I could very well be wrong (I hope I am!), but I am only expressing my concerns because I want events run here to go smoothly and come off well, not to make everyone (including myself) look like an ass. TGA is an interesting, special place and the last thing I want to see is the mismanagement, backstabbing, and continual cannabalism that seems to plague the fighting game community in general.

You make the statement about 'not wanting to meet top players' -- frankly, I would hop top players (and organizers such as yourself) would make an effort (for whatever reason: either to help cultivate and grow a community of people with common interests, or to pad the prize pool with dead money) to reach out to not-so-top players.

....

Okay, my statement about CvS2 is hyperbole wrapped around a half-truth. Responding to it like a typical SRKer (in the "LOL SCRUB LOL" tone) was completely unnecessary. I am not a CvS2 player? Did I fail the offical 'Player's Exam' at some point and not know it? What kind of a statement is that? Or are you arguing that I am in fact wrong? Even though CvS2 is the only game run best of one game at Evo, due to time constraints? That it is often the last game to finish up at tournaments (both large and small) due to its length?

....

...this is really weird, though. Out of all of the time I have been going to TGA I have never gotten this kind of hostility from anyone there (with the exception of Andy's ex-wife). Did I accidently rape someone's dog? Again, I mean no harm or insult to the store itself or any of its employees (even you, Anthony :p ). I just do not want the elitist attitude and narrow-minded approach most fighting game communities end up taking on showing up at TGA.

lol ok, one thing: i just BEG of you for once Dippy, pleaseee stop typing so much. Just break it down to like a sentence or two, we'll get the point.

but yeah, dipstick you're a really cool guy dont think i'm bashing you or anything. This is what i mean by the internet being gay when it comes to explaining things. I HATE IT. but anyways, hey man don't worry about how its gonna run, thats our job (unless you think you can make this tourney run alot smoother, would u like to help? wb to me ASAP). I'm sure things will go fine as long as EVERYONE cooperates. Is that gonna happen? 50% yes 50% no. Its up to all you guys that are entering to make this event AWESOME.

also, it just so happened that anthony and i read your post at like the same time and posted lol its not a gang up bang up thing.

I'm gonna agree with Dippy on this one--double elim CvS2 on one cabinet is going to take forever. The fact that good players are going to be there is going to make it take even longer. And I haven't been to TGA since they revamped but last time it was pretty cramped. We'll see...

CvS2 is going to be fine, it's first and we arn't running evo here so the first matches will take forever but as soon the final 8 are left over you won't even be bothered my the cvs2 tourney.

Thank you all for showing up to this little tourney. I can not thank everyone enough for bearing with the heat/small room, it's been a pleasure running this tourney for all you guys (note to selves, this was my first tourney i ran).

To all the NYers/NJers, it's been great meeting you guys for the first time/second time. I hope you guys will be able to come again so that we can make tourneys alot more interesting.

To all of New England, thank you guys for showing up, you really made this tourney worth running, you guys have been a great help to the fighting game community and for TGA's new arcade room. I hope to see all of you guys again soon so that we can LEVEL UP in our skillz.
