--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, if you read the headlines you know that we are getting some fighting game cabs in.

Our current lineup will be (In Japanese "Candy" cabs).

SF3S (Japanese Version)
CVS2 (Japanese Version)
GGX2#R (Japanese Version)

Our old American Street Fighter Cabinet will have a multi-game interface similar to an ultracade, but will feature the Japanese versions of:

Street Fighter Zero 3
Puzzle Fighter
Some KOF Games
+ more

So, our 4th candy cab is up for grabs. Let me know what you want and it will happen. I will take the poll online and combine it with store feedback to make the final decision, so let your voice be heard.

Thanks everyone!

Andy

MvC2 is winning this poll and it will not be close.

Due to this, I'm voting for MB:AC out of spite. ;)

Fighter's History Dynamite would be good for a laugh, though. Double German!

MvC2 is a pretty common game, you can find it in almost any arcade. I'd like to either see Rumble fish 2 or Melty Blood because they're hard to find and aren't exactly games people can just go anywhere and play. ^_^"

I Love the line up. My question is:
Did Andy get
Rumble Fish, MvC2, MB AC... or are we choosing from the games that are GOing to be bought.

I vote for MvC2!

... but I never seen Rumble Fish... and I've seen MB for the PC... so I voted for Rumble Fish 2 just out of curiosity.

MY FINAL VOTE IS!!:

Rumble Fish 2, AND!!! MvC2 on another Cabinet with perfect 360 sticks and it would be sweet to have perfect buttons aswell, but I know how expensive they are so convex ones will have to do :p

... oh yeah, and Melty blood should get some love on the "Alpha3" interchangable cabinet.

MvC2 looks too cartoony for my tastes, but then again, I'm not familiar with the gameplay, so graphics aside, the game may still kick ass. I don't play many fighting games these days and since I'm really only familiar with the MK and Tekken games, I'll refrain from voting. I will say though, I would go with the games that require less button-mashing and are more skill-based. Like focused on counterattacking (i.e. DBZ: Budokai) or whatever DoA3 was (granted, you can still button-mash in DoA3, but against a skilled player, you'll lose miserably).

Uh... uh... I agree with your point, but the games you named off... no. Just... no. If you think those are technical games, what do you have in mind as a button masher? Rise of the Robots?

(I third the vote for some VF4:FT action; the fact that there are all of two machines on the east coast should mean nothing -- that's two more machines here then there are for Rumblefish 2 and MB:AC. If anything, Andy likes going for rarity.)

So I played "Soul Caliber II" at MIT today while waiting for someone to finish on DDR Extreme. Is it just me or is it really easy? I played as Talim (sp?), the chick with daggers(?), and got to the end guy (the dude who's on fire and stuff) and almost beat him. And I've never played the game! And what would guys classify this kind of fighting game as? (i.e. button-masher, counter-attacker, etc.)

Garrett
June 3rd, 2005, 23:16
You are right, the single player is quite simple, and can be won through button-mashing and a little guess-work. I think the game has a lot of strategy in a competitive setting, but otherwise it's a button-masher.

Talim isn't cheap. xD And who goes judging how good a game is on the strength of the AI? MvC2 still has the easiest AI in the universe.

Anyway, I voted for MvC2 because I like it. I know people want to vote for new and different things, but remember that everyone was clamoring for TGA to get SvC when it came out and a few months later no one played it anymore. I don't doubt that there are some fans of all of the games listed, but please try to make your decision on experience.

NekoNekoKakumei
June 4th, 2005, 03:05
I'm not judging anything, I'm just asking if SC2 is easy or if it was just a fluke that I nearly beat it my first try never having played the game before.

Only idiots were clamoring for SvC, even then.

I still hold my vote for MB:AC in confidence -- but I do not like MvC2 one bit. Besides, it's played the hell out. Don't be scared because you have to pick between the maid, the loli, and the schoolgirl. :o

....

NekoNekoKakumei: SC2 is an easy game to pick up, and the AI is retarded. With that said, wanna play for money? ;)

Can we get like tournaments every month too?
From my experience with Andy running events at TGA, you could probably get them every week if someone would be willing to run them. Hell, every day if someone was that maniacal. He's willing to give you all the action you can handle.

NekoNekoKakumei: SC2 is an easy game to pick up, and the AI is retarded. With that said, wanna play for money? ;)

OK, seriously, why is everyone thinking that I'm insinuating that (a) I think SC2 sucks because the AI is retarded, or (b) I think I'm hot shit because I got to the end guy on my first try? I asked a simple question about the game, it got answered. We all agree that the AI is dumb. And from what I've seen, it looks like a decent game :) . And for the record, I suck at fighting games. I don't claim to be good at them whatsoever, which makes what I did a real shocker to me. In competitive play, I'd probably never win a game unless I started practicing and playing fighting games as much as I play DDR. Now I hope that settles it. :gator:

In other words, Dippy: NO.

ok heres the scoop:

When these cabinets get in, we're gonna have sessions every saturday most likely. Or even every other Saturday (except on tournie days).

Josh (Dizzy's Boobs, heh): Andy and I are planning on having tournies every MONTH . It'll have the usual rules and plans:

-Double elimination
-Pay per play (with yen tokens)
-Best 2/3 non-finals, 3/5 for semis+finals, and 4/7 for grand finals. (even CvS2, but it just depends on how many people enter and how smooth the tourney goes).
-$5-10 entry fee for EACH game.
-Pot of money: 1st place=70%, 2nd place=20%, and 3rd place=10%
-Prizes: Still deciding if theres a grand prize for best performance/best player. It all depends on HOW MANY people show up.

*Tekken 5+Street Fighter Turbo will be on console.*
*Matches will be recorded, and most likely put online through this website, but we'll just have to see about the bandwidth and what not.*

*We'll be hosting our next tourney in early JULY. Keep posted.*

To be very honest: F$%# MB:AC now, cuz its on PC! I've played it at ECCX when someone brought it and its three buttons? what is that?!?!?? and its pretty repetitive. But Rumble Fish 2 is different, so i'd vote for that. MvC2 SHOULD be in the arcade cuz its still playable, and still is pretty fun; even if its still about Storm, Magneto, Sentinel yaddayaddayadda......

But what i was also thinking about is having a Tekken 5 cabinet, who would go for that? Seriously, raise your hand and post up if thats a good idea. The thing is, it MIGHT just be sticks, no control pad. AND no cards..... so more than likely no one would go for it, right? just askin what people think.

The following two statements show a contradiction in logic (unless you are arguing that MB:AC is a game not worth playing -- see below).

Your statements are also flawed: first off, the PC version is a much older revision. That's like playing Guilty Gear X and then declaring #R garbage. The button argument is also silly (It only has three buttons? So it must suck? No wonder no one plays VF in the US...), and also wrong -- there is a fourth button for parrying (although I can't blame you for missing that in MBR, since it's pretty damn worthless). Lastly, I'm willing to bet that some of the games you saw (if not all of them) had Master Chibi involved, who has the gameplan of "do IAD C with Satsuki and pray for mistakes." It is a problem with the game (in terms of having only one or two combos of any real use), especially with certain characters (like Satsuki and Nanaya), but again changes to the arcade version make this less of a problem.

-Dippy

NekoNekoKakumei
June 4th, 2005, 23:25
I was just about to say: what about "Tekken 5"?? I mean, every arcade and it's sister has a version of "Tekken 5", so it's nothing really that special and part of what makes TGA so awesome is that it has all these games that you won't find at your local quarter-munching arcade. Then again, maybe it's a good idea to have a few games (in general, not necessarily fighting games) that people (first time customers?) ARE familiar with (like the DDR games). But this is just me talking. Maybe this has never been an issue for first time people.

Garrett
June 5th, 2005, 14:02
I think most of the people who come to TGA are people who have heard about it, and it's specialties from other customers. The people who come in off the street are either going to be interested, or not. I don't know if it's a worthwhile investment to try to hold a single customers attention with a commonplace game to get them to stay for a while.

Melty Blood: I've heard several accounts that this game is sub-par. I know it has all the allure of "SUPAHKAWAIIANIMESCHOOLGIRLNUMBAHONE" and all, but MvC2 will probably work out better overall

Soul Calibur II: It's a decent game, too bad all you have to do to win is know how to guard impact.

SvC Chaos: Its a fighting game from SNK! What did you expect? It falls into the same category as the Mortal Kombat series: Its fun to play every once in a while, but not meant to be taken seriously.

............I still vote for Mortal Kombat II. ahahaha

Why? I've heard this from you and Echoes (and a couple of other people privately), and now I am starting to wonder if I am completely losing it. You people make this game seem worse than Killer Instinct. The only thing that makes sense to me is that Andy played it in Japan and did not like it at all. If that is the case, then I am in no position to question it.

How very awful that this place wont get melty blood... has anyone in here seen videos of it!?! the fact that it may never see a home release warrants this sexy tokyo arcade should get it.

Well, TGA is getting RF2 -- and it's probably the only game I care about right now. The biggest problem I have with all of the games coming in (and this probably a statement about the community moreso than anything else) is that I have been seen these games for years. If I did not want to play MvC2 4 years ago, I still do not want to play it now. There are people who still play these games; I guess I am just frustrated with the stagnation of the genre.

Also, I am fairly sure MB:AC will never see a home release; the game is too small time for all involved to front up the several hundred thousand required to get it done.
