Ok, so Final Fantasy Tactics is my favourite game of all time. I mean, my favorite. I've played the Shining Force games, Tactics Ogre (the PS1 game), all those Nippon Ichi games, FFTA, and I'm currently slaving through Growlanser Generations. Are there any other decent Strategy/Tactical RPGs out there? I'd say I was impressed with "Disgaea" the most out of the ones I've played. What other good ones are out there??

Super Robot Wars.

Yeah, its all in japanese, but the interface is simple enough to learn, and the system is almost identical for all the games.

I would have to go with all of the Onimusha Serise, I think its a PG because you play different characters and you can level them up with weapons and all of these things. And theres Brave Warriors, I would have to say that this is also a good game and you can do the same things just like in FF games, but better lol.

I don't think he means Onimusha type games. Those are more button mashers. Sure you level up stuff but you do in Resident Evil and I dont think that's really an RPG.
For strategy type how about Command and Conquer type games or Starcraft or Full Spectrum Warrior?
Can't really think of any "Strategy/RPG" games but how about (sure you've played it) chrono trigger? That's all i can think of I think my brain is brokenedddd.

EDIT:
Kind of an RPG but not really, but I just remembered how great these games are. Panzer Dragoon for Sega Saturn. I love those games they're so fun.

Yeah, Chrono Trigger is definitely not Strategy RPG, just RPG. And as for "Starcraft" and all those games, I didn't really mean RTS games either (though one could argue that WC3 has a lot of RPG elements to it). But it's also not turn-based strategy like "Heroes of Might and Magic".

It kinda sucks 'cuz the Strategy RPG's (aka Tactical RPG's) that are out there, don't require much strategy, but just leveling up and outnumber+destroying. Which is why I liked FFT so much: the enemies leveled to match your level, so you really had to plan a strategy to win. And if the game was too easy for you, you could challenge yourself (like my all time favorite challenge: the pure magic users challenge - only mage classes, no class switching ^.^ ) And the characters were likable and it had a fascinating story. Which is pretty much why I didn't like FFT Advance - what, did they run out of ideas?!

Final Fantasy Tactics is the best SRPG ever made. with Arc The Lad 2 and 3 on close second and third.

Ok, so "Arc the Lad 2" and 3 are good. Are those out for PS2? I searched Gamestop and it came up with "Arc the Lad: End of Darkness" and "Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits" are those the ones? Which ones the best?

no the original Arc The Lad series (arc 1, 2 and 3) were never released in america, until about 2001( or 2?) any how the only way you can get them is by buying the box set of all 3 releashed by Working Designs.

its 80 bucks. but very worth it.

Arc the lad one was not only the first RPG releashed on the PS1 way back when...it is also the first SRPG ever made.

the average player will only get 10 hours of game play out of it. but teh sequel has atleast 80-90 hours of game play in it. and arc 3 has 60. plus the games are amazing.

oh and play them in order from start to vinish. becuase you can transfer data from game to game opening quests and items.

$80?! Damn, well if it's as good as you say it is. I just hope it's challenging in a FFT kind of way and not in a Tactics Ogre kind of way, which I paid nearly $60 for the PS1 version and found the game was a ghastly abomination of crap. (So I sold it for $10 more on eBay). :gator:

trust me paying 80 bucks for 3 of teh greatest games ever made is def worth it! and you get the "Making Of" disk
and Arc Arena. so you can take your Arc 2 file and any ones elses and battle it out.

plus you get this guy as one of your characters in Arc 3. and he is the shizz not yo! *cough* but seriously Velhart is one of teh best characters ever.

Damn, this must be a good game. One more thing: is the movement tile-based or something else? The one thing I didn't like about the Growlanser games was that the movement was "move in direction"-based, so it had a pseudo-real time feeling to it, but it made an otherwise excellent game kinda lame. :mouse:

That guy has to be the coolest guy I have ever seen in a game in my whole entire life because....he is so gosh darn fre4aking unbelievably COOL!!!

If he were any cooler, he'd be frozen. He looks kinda like Sephiroth, who I affectionately refer to as Sephy-chan. :gator:

All the Arc Games are tile based. along the lines of FFT (even though FFT is based off of Arc)

but it doesn't take away from the game

After picking up Growlanser Generations, I must add it to my favorite SRPGs...though I haven't played much of it. ^_^. The battle system is somewhat hard to describe, as it actually does something different from anything I've seen. o.O Oh, did I mention that it was developed by Working Designs (Lunar) in conjunction with Atlus and Creative Labs??? DID I MENTION THAT I <3 WORKING DESIGNS WITH EVERY PART OF MY BEING?!?! >_>. <_<

But yea. Growlanser Generations = two thumbs up :D

Probably the best console for RPGs is the PC Engine... at least IMO. Tons and tons of great RPGs on that and the TG16, and none of them feel like the standard console game just played with different char names and monsters.

Yeah, I tried describing the battle system in my previous posts. I thought the story was great, but the battle system was completely unnecessary. I didn't see any need for them to do it the way they did.

I really enjoyed Mystaria for the Saturn, Vasteel for the TG16, and Return of the Phantom (Phantom of the Opera theme) for the PC.

Whaaaat? (and Blarrrrgh -- I hate it when people can't credit the developers properly). Career Soft (the same people who did Langrisser) developed the game, and Atlus published them in Japan. All Working Designs did was take two years, publish it in the US, and fuck up the translation. (They do get credit for bringing the game out, though). It's a good game -- I should go back and finish it. :o

On another note, Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (and the whole series) is the win. The entire series is a set of turn-based strategy RPGs in a series of stereotypical fantasy settings (but with the high levels of execution you would expect from Nintendo and Intellgent Systems) with a difficulty setting that is best described as OMGWTF. These games are hard, especially on the higher difficulty settings. I guess that's why I like them. :p

Cool, I'll try out FE too. The only problem with FFT is that it was way too easy (even when doing Straight Class Character Challenges). :gator:

Hoshigami: Ruining Blue Earth, for PSX

Decent, although few have heard of it. Not really into SRPGs (more of an RTS type of guy), but of them, this was one of the better ones.
