In 1998, Square introduced what would soon develop something of a cult following: Brave Fencer Musashiden. Alucaneet kingdom is being ruthlessly attacked by the Thirstquencher empire, and in her last act before being kidnapped, Princess Fillet performs the "hero summoning." Enter Musashi, the shore blue-haired hero. Driven by his growing disdain for the Thirstquencher empire, Musashi sets out on his quest to save the princess.

Now, this game introduced some interesting elements, and was touted by some as Squaresoft's 'zelda-killer.' Not a Zelda killer, in my opinion, but still an amazing game. When exploring maps, you have the ability to absorb an enemy's power. These range from shooting projectiles, to being completely refreshed, to having horrible body odor. (I still see no point in the B.O. skill.) These all have their advantages.

As for the subject of 'being completely refreshed', if you didn't know, this game ran on a virtual clock. Though not exactly real time, there was still a clock that ran constantly whether you did anything or not. Though it did get annoying at times (as some quests could only be completed at certain times), it was interesting to work with.

Now, it had been six years since we heard word of Musashi. Then, SquareEnix did something right. They announced the sequel, Samurai Legend Musashi. Now sporting a new look (that of Dark Cloud 2), Musashi makes his triumphant return to the Playstation 2. From playing the demo of this game, it looks, plays, and SOUNDS amazing. Gainax studios and the famous surf band, the Surf Coasters, each lend their talents in there respective ways with an awesome anime intro, and catchy music.

Samurai Legend Musashi ships today, and is slated for release TOMORROW. (WOOO.)

<Review to follow my completion of the game>

So who has played the original, and who plans on buying/playing the sequel?

Discuss!

I love the old game so much. My friend got it, and we sat down and played the whole game through over a weekend. We've been looking forward to the sequel since the first announced it... maybe a year ago now.

I know my friend will get the sequel, and I'll probably steal it from him once he's done.

Oh man Gainax made it? Damn, if the people from FLCL are behind it, I'm sure it's got some goodness in it.
