unless you can get someone locally to fix it, you need a new one. Sony will charge you an arm and a leg to get it done, and they'll have it for in indeterminate amount of time. Sell your broken one to a video game store, they usually give about $30 credit, and use it to buy a pstwo. Assuming that is, if you can't get it fixed

Sup Craz? There's a place in Newport I went to when I fucked up my disc tray using my slide card. It's called Quad FX and they're pretty quick depending on the problem. It costs like $30 to fix my PS2. It's a little out of your way but it's worth it if you don't have the cash to buy a new one. I would call them first and get an estimate.

If you can determine what's wrong, there's a bunch of parts here http://www.chipzone.com

Bah, fixing it yourself can be a lot of effort and time that won't necessarily pay off. If you want to be playing as soon as possible with as little effort possible, go buy a new one. If not, try to get in touch with Edo, maybe Andy L, or look it up on the internet and do it yourself.

i kinda have a problem with my PS2 too. when the hook ups are in and the reset button light is red (like it is supposed to be), i press the button, it turens green, then in a second later, it goes back red, and the drive will not open. and there is a GAME in there TOO!!!!! i wanna get it out really bad too. anybody know what i should do?
oh and craz, about your ps2, that happened to my cuzin, the same exact thing. like everyone else mostly said, you are gonna have to sell it to a video game store and buy a new one with the money you got so far.

ps2's have a 40% defect rate to begin with. Can't expect anything to last too long. Even the all mighty x box only has a 3 year expected life span. The pstwo has fewer complaints, but there's always the people who just get crappy systems. They can't all be winners. Though good luck craz, you need it

I've had my PS2 for 3 years and put a flip top on like a year and half ago. Still works great. Best thing about flip top is if somethings stuck inside, you can just open the lid. I don't even use the eject button anymore so i guess that will take away some ware on the tray.

there is one thing you should try yourself before you go and buy a new one or flip out. take it apart and clean the lens. the lens might have dust on it or something. i had to do that a couple times when my ps2 said disc read error

I know the problem. I had the same problem with God Of War. Here's what you can do. Open up your ps2. Take off the black part that covers the cd tray if you dont have a flip top. Now there should be a white gear with a metal thing to the left of it. Take a sharpie and mark the position of the white gear in line with the metal. So just make a little line across from the metal piece on to the gear where they're toching or almost touching. If you still dont understand ask and ill take apic. Now turn it one click clockwise, only turns clockwise. it will go back if you keep turning it. Now try it. If that doesnt work, try one more click. It should only take 1 or 2 clicks to get it to work properly. Hope this helps.

The honest way I fixed mine from being a 0% read rate to atleast 75% was putting it Vertically rather than horizontally ^_^

Yea Midnite you right, its better that way because then the disc wouldn't be mested up a lot.
