I know that this thread has been done hundreds of times over on other forums but really, what would you want on the next machine? I've been working on Ideas for a "DDR IIDX" . Its going to have 2 6-panel pads, an infared sensor on each side of a pad, a Wide-screen TV, and a geat sound system.
Its my dream, and I hope Konami is listening.

4 arrows, more old school style songs. More fun mods. Over 200 songs. That will keep me happy for a long time

How about integrating the Sony EyeToy?
Oh wait that was already announced this morning.

It was mentioned this morning that DDR Extreme is most likely going to incorporate the EyeToy somehow. Thats all thats known.

That would be pretty interesting... However, how they are going to incorporate it is totally a mystery to me. It basicly wouldn't be DDR anymore. Maybe, you could see yourself dancing? Maybe, if you do well, you might get a rainbow aura of fruitiness around you? Who knows? :D

Hey, check out that Ultramix 2 crap, they're taking it where DDR has never gone before, and it doesn't even seem all that bad... Party Mode woots.

They have some kind of time bomb mode as well, I'd like to see where they go with this. I personally think they misused the engine and gave Emi one really bad looking face, but again I'd like to see what happens.

The current hardware is really old. A move to newer hardware is well in order if the series is to continue its arcade presence. Sadly, it just isn't that popular in its target markets and the likelihood of another arcade game is very slim. In interviews with developers it has been stated that it is not dead yet, but they make no implication of whether they are talking about console releases or the arcade game.
I like to believe that a new one is in the works being kept under a strict NDA, but it's a silly hope with little substance to it so I have to stay on top of the fence on this one.
new hardware? Why would it need new hardware? It's not like IIDX in which DVD movies are playing, and it's not like it's graphically inferrior

Well, considering the background movies are a lot lower quality at the arcade than on the home consoles... I don't see the point in putting the game on a CD when it can be on a DVD. So why NOT give it a hardware upgrade? Maybe even better speakers and screen?

Where was this said?

Well, on movie quality, you can tell just by looking.

Yeah obviously. I thought you meant there was like a new and improved one coming out or something.

DDR Extreme's background movies have a ton of compression artifacts and the lack of variety is due in part to space limitations. IIDX's movies are much higher quality because the hardware is that much better.

Well, more the fact that the movies are simply playing from a DVD drive. DDR has always been limited. If it had cooler videos I'd like it more, for some reason. Videos aren't really one of the things that comes to mind when you think of memorable DDR songs, unless its something like Max 300. I mean, Paranoia Survivor Max's IIDX video owns anything from DDR, and its MOSTLY stuff taken from DDR. I popped that sucker into my Stepmania directory, and it makes the experience that much better.
see, that's the thing. IIDX has videos specific for each song. At least semi-specific. Whereas DDR's vids are pretty much throw abouts, and basically will have one image that will be repeated, or something from the title screen of the song. Compared to fifth mix, extreme has much better graphics

Extreme's graphics aren't that much better than 5th mix' in terms of usage. 5th mix had a lot of dynamic visuals whereas everything from 6th mix and on plays videos that are read straight from the disc. I would say that overall, 5th mix made the best use of the hardware doing what it was intended to do.

New hardware = better, unless you're IIDX 9th and 10th, then you're questionable.

I say leave the engine as is, and work with more songs.

More songs would be nice.

All I want is a comprehensive mix (you know, plus a few new things). I want to be able to play whatever whenever. I don't want to have to drive an hour to find a Solo machine. I don't want to have to try to remember where I can play certain songs. Furthermore, why are graphics even an issue? Maybe I'm an anomaly, but I don't exactly pay much attention to what else is going on aside from the arrows. It seems more like eye candy for spectators, always has. I guess, then, a hardware upgrade would be great, but it hardly seems necessary. The arrows go. They make you move. Movement makes you happy. If it ain't broke...

Man I know. That would break my heart open if that happens B. But knowing that so many people love it. It won't happen.
