View Full Version : [PNM] We need more folks to play pop'n
So here's the problem. MFC is making alot less money on pop'n music lately. I'm lowering the difficulty to get more kids to play it, lower the continue cost, etc. We NEED an upgrade, any ideas on how to make money?

There's no way you are getting the "core" PnM players around here (all four of them). PnM5 blows.
What might help with random people trying to play the game would be an English translation. I get lost in the older Pop'n menus sometimes. x_x
I thought MFC was never upgrading their machine anyway.

Need an upgrade?
One word for ya mah man...
YOINK!
You heard me...
But yea, seriously, If I had the cash, I'd play more Pop'N, it's fun. Even when I can't read what I'm doing cause it ain't in english =)
Also... you could do the same as TGA, and just collecting all the soda cans and bottles the MFC kids just throw away on ya. Put up a "Bottles and Can's Only" barrel, and just recycle them , you could prolly tag a good deal out of that.

Popn 5 is ALRIGHT (it DOES have precussive.)
However. The buttons are iffy. I dont know about the new difficulty. However, on the ransai I can pass 32's and I was having trouble on 30's there.
UPGRADE PLZ.
see, therein lies the problem. People don't want to play a pop'n 5, but if they don't play, we can't upgrade. So the solution is either wait till TGA gets one (i'm sure they'll do it eventually), or play on our machine. BTW Juggs, i'm in the process of replacing the lights, just so it's brighter, i don't know what your talking about the buttons being iffy

He prolly means that one or two of the buttons seemed to stick a bit when hit on certian areas. I had the same problem with one of them, i think it was the left green. even after you fixed it, like every 1 in 3-40 hits it would stick or if i would hit around the far end of the button it would stick

I tried it out for the first time ever Monday.
I did TEWWIBLE.
Is there a super-ultra-amazingly-easy beginner mode on there? X_X
I would love to play it again, but I need to figure out exactly how first. :p

I think there is. I believe it might be a 5 button version. Not sure though. I like Pop'N, but I don't know how to play it too well. Last time I had a party, I played it for 2 games... Fun, but still alittle too hard for me... Maybe, it's just getting used to it..

I dunno, I've only played pop'n like once, and I was able to pass the hardest song on 5 button normal mode, whatever it was... probably my IIDX experience though...

Yeah, but I played only 9 button when I tried, and ate death. 5 key is easy to me since I play normal beatmania. Add 2 more keys, then its colorful IIDX. Add the last 2, then its living hell.

Yeah, I went and played 9 button afterwards, and I was only doing ok, its just you need to get adjusted to the colors, whats in back, whats in front.

I'll go over there and I'll make them play. I am very good at that. Like my fortunet cookie says..
Let me look for it..

Sorry. Now to add something in topic so I don't seem like a jack ass.
I have to agree. 9 line seems pretty scary to me. I was having a bit of trouble fumbling around on that whole 5 line bit. But I'm sure I'll get used to it...
Also, I should go up there and play Pop'n, and as I'm (somehow) a "cool kid" up there, people will follow my example... and play as well! BWAHAHAHA!
Don't ask me how it happened... THEY decided I was cool... not me...

I akin PNM 5 to something like... I dunno... DDR 2nd Mix... dunno how you'd get people to play it, but they might if thats all they have. Just tell them if they don't play that people will hurt them.
And 9 lines isn't too scary, going from the 8 lines of IIDX. Its only 1 more. Just gotta get used to the colors.
thanks for the support folks! Well i had to do what the boss man wanted me to do. So i put the difficulty down by one, so it's on 2/easy mode now. And i put the continue cost down to one token. I ended up playing more then anyone else last night, but i did manage to beat Theme of Space Maco Hyper, though i guarentee that's because of the difficulty switch. I also got a pic of my getting one good on Coqettish(or whatever it is), with a 200+ combo.....it's impressive.....even if it's only a level 14..... :gator:
So just come down and play, because even though it's a bad song list, and a bad interface, it's a crazy fun game!

Nah man don't worry it's mad coool. I was waiting for someone to finish it off for me.
And anyways, whoever follows your example must be out of their mind. Oh wait.
Just like you. XD

Of course they be out of their minds. But soon, they shall be rockin Pop'N players, because they shall be like "Ohhh! He's so coool! we need to play Pop'N just like him!" And I will be like, what? Who? The fonzie's here?
And then Fonzie will be like
'EY!"
and kick the Pop'N machine to get free games, and I'll be like, oh, they really DID Mean the Fonzie... Damn.

There's no way you are getting the "core" PnM players around here (all four of them). PnM5 blows.
4? Who might they be?
I thought it was more like 5. You, me, Kami, Lisa, Jerren (probably the best in NE when playing on PSX pad), and probably a few others really. It's more popular than you think, but yeah, PnM 5 blows, especially for more experienced players.
Here's an idea:
Instead of waiting until it makes $5,000 like your boss said (which will never happen if it's a PnM 5, btw), I'd say you should just wait until it makes $1,000 - which is what it will cost to upgrade to Pop'n 8 (the highest you can upgrade without altering the mainboard).
At least $1,000 is a reasonable goal. 5,000 would litterally take years at this rate.
i do what the boss tells me. And i meant the four kids at the arcade who play alot. I have no control over when it gets upgraded. We're making roughly between 100 and 200 dollars a week. So if that stays consistant, it will take one year at most, not years

XD Hey I would play by your influence too. You secretly hypnotize people right onto the Pop'n machine without realizing it.

You know I was talking about the 4 that Dipstick was talking about, right? (I quoted him, after all). I'm pretty sure he was talking about the 4 biggest Pop'n players in NE.

Wait.....you mean the Pop'n Machine makes 100-200/wk or the arcade as a whole?
That sounds like what the arcade makes in a week. Didn't you say the Pop'n Machine, alone, had to make $5,000 in order to upgrade? Or did I misunderstand and did you mean the arcade as a whole had to make $5,000?
....the arcade make a whole lot more then $100 a week andy. Just as an example, DDR made $178 last week. And our most popular game is actually Cyclone, that stupid light spinning thingy. The pop'n machine has to make $5000. My boss said he wanted the wanted to be paid off before we upgrade it

I am DYING to play Pop'n music. Every time I plan to go down my work is like, "Hey we've decided you're working a million hours overtime." I don't know when I will be down, but it will be soon. When I do go, I am going to bring some people with me!! Thanks again for getting the machine!!
I am going to do everything I can to promote the machine at TGA. We are getting some PNM asc's in next week. So maybe that will help generate more interest, so when people get hooked I can say.. Well, ya know..if you want to play the REAL Pop'n Music you can go to MFC...
I think a good way to make money would be to have a joint PNM / DDR tournament, I'd be more than happy to help sponsor it too!!
Andy
As someone that's buying one of those ASCs, I can definitely say that I'll be tempted to drive to MFC to check it out once I get my skill up a bit.

If I ever get down there and since I'm almost a total Pop'N noob, what should I do? I mean step for step through the menus and what buttons to press to do what. The menu is in Japanese isn't it? And whats easy? A 14? An 8? I've only ever played PNM Best Hits, 8, and 9 but I'm not expecting PNM5 to look like that.

first thing you do is insert your 3 tokens. at this point you can put in your modifiers (doesn't apply to 5 line). i can't remember all the mods off the top of my head. after that, you push the BIG RED BUTTON.then you pick which mode you wish to play (which should be 5-line since you're new to teh pop'n 5th) to do that, you push the blue buttons. before you push the red button to pick the mode, you can change your charachter by pushing the yellow buttons and then the green buttons to change outfits. then you push the BIG RED BUTTON. then you pick your song by pressing the blue buttons. the lower the level, the easier it is (i.e. level 1 = easiest)

I got more people to play Pop'n. When 'Zaba and I went to MFC Saturday, we brought my little brother (fellow Chounouryoku member GMJ) with us. I got him to try out Pop'n and he enjoyed it. Now to get him to help pay for a Pop'n game and a Ransai.

Hey! I went to MFC once and dumped about $10 into that PopN machine! ;)
But.. yeah, I live an hour and a half away from there...
I would like to help, but there's no way I can really make it down there more than once every few months or so. I have no money anyways :o

That's why the MFC touranments are there, gives all of us more of a reason for us that live farther away to go and have fun. I have to still play that Pop'n Machine myself, but if Abe plans another MFC, then I'll have my chance.

Last time I played PopN, which was also my first time playing, I was informed that I "wasn't much of a pop n guy". Discouraging.

I've only played a total of maybe 3 times, and am on nine line, I can do a decent amount of songs, The song that completly stumps me thus far is 100 Sec Kitchen Battle on PNM 9th. Once I get my PS2 modded. I will be investing in an ASC and popn 9th, I have no become addicted :::Needs more popn::: Maybe one day I will take the 2 hour drive to MFC, That would be TeH RoX0rz! :gator:
