This Christmas, my brother got for my other brother, NFSU2. And we can't stop playing it! Here's my little review:
Graphics: The cars in this game are gorgeous, smooth, shiny, and detailed. That is, the cars you and your opponents drive. The other traffic cars completely lack detail, but hey, they aren't important anyway right? The landscape is beautiful, and the layout of the roads and the highway feels a lot like a real city, or at least like the ideal city. I absolutely love the blur effects in this game, it wouldn't be the same without them. Driving along in a drag race at 150mph with the buildings just blurring past you is a real video game rush.
9/10
Plot: None. Who cares? It's a racing game. Although, I did pick up something about you being from the country...
X/10
Gameplay: For controls, I personally use the right analog stick to accelerate, and I drive manual transmission (of course). The techniques required to take the sharp turns, the precision in accelerating for a drag race, all of it feels very real. Of course, I can't even drive a real car, let alone a beast like you can make in the game. My point is, you can't win every race by just accelerating fast, and zooming around the corners. In fact, that's how you will lose, and that challenge is a good thing. The biggest problem with some of the races, especially the circuit races, is that your opponents have the ability to make a 4 second gain in about 1. Also, the times are pretty inconsistent; I can place 3rd with a time of 3:11 and place 3rd AGAIN with 2:53, a time that was faster than the first place car last time! That does get very frustrating (mostly in Hard mode). Modding your car, making it faster and stronger, and making it really sexy, is a good part of the game. My brother and I spent about an hour getting his car to look just right. The only problem was that we picked up all of the level 1 upgrades and all the available body parts and special parts fairly quick, and then we had to beat a whole lot more races to get just one small upgrade. In other words, the progression was off, it was too easy to upgrade it fast, but then you had to WAIT a long time to get another upgrade. A minor problem. +There are a number of funky glitches in the game+
8/10
Music: This is something that will change for each person (or at least I think so), but this is my review so.. *nya*. The music is pretty lame. The only songs I really like are: Celebration, Black Betty, and I Do. The rest suck quite a lot. But I must give them credit, the songs that you race to are fast and do accelerate the pace of the race(rhyme). They just get annoying. Plus, they really lack a good number of them. I feel like I hear the same songs all the time. Madden 2005 has more songs than NFSU2. Lame.
6/10
Overall (not an average): 7.5/10 +1 or 2 if you like driving
Pros:
Fun
Fast
Great Graphics
Sexy Cars
Cons:
Music Blows
Glitches
Races can be Unfair
No Plot
