In the most recent issue of Game Informer, a rather lrge article was posted about the PSP and most importnatly, the price. The creatore of PSP, i cant remeber japanese names for the life me of, said that the PSP unit will cost about 19,000 (if i remeber correctly) yen which would translate to just under $200. Sony will also be releasing the PSP with a value pack that has all the accessories, such as headphones and another battery, for $237.

I was going to get some J-PSP's for the store but nobody expressed any interest in them. I heard there are some MAJOR problems with battery life. Has anyone else heard this?

Yes, battery life is quite small. Last time I read, it was about 2-3 hours at most.

But that should be no reason for anyone not to love the PSP. Really, how many times a year are you truly going to need that much time away from a power socket? I can only think of maybe two or three times a year where I'm in a car long enough to need more battery length than that - and even then, on that occasion I'm sure extra battery packs won't cost that much.

The PSP is quite clearly superior to the DS in every way possible except battery life. It trounces the DS in terms of power, it has more big-name games, it's getting DIRECT PORTS of PS2 games, and it has a HUGE screen that's nice and easy on the eyes. Not to mention its media will hold alot more data - hence why they can pull off the direct PS2 ports. Battery life, schmattery life. The only reason I can see everyone was siding with the DS is because everyone automatically assumes Nintendo makes the best handhelds because they own the market, and I think it's about time they step aside. When Sony announced the PSP, I was assuming Nintendo was going to counter with a system that was just as - or almost as powerful and had just as good as a list of upcoming games. That was definitely not the case. I'm actually really surprised in Nintendo this time - they really came up quite short. I mean, comparing a DS to a PSP is like comparing an N64 to a PS2. C'mon, Nintendo, I KNOW you can do better than that.

Sony may claim that the battery can last 9 hours..... NOT TRUE... If you play a game that doesn't access the DVD, as much or at all, maybe 6-7 hours... Perhaps, you can get 9 hours of battery life, if you only use the media player for the Sony Memory Sticks for mp3 music... As far as I can tell, I can only get my system running with Metal Gear Ac!d for 3.5 hours at best. So the more the PSP has to use the nifty mini-DVD reader, the more strain on the f-ing battery...

As for the games? The first batch of games isn't that great... I am still waiting for a game that actually makes worth 200 dollars to purchase the system, and throw another 50 for the game. I would recommend laying off the PSP market until they actually have more titles, making it more worth it.

I mean, I got mine for free, but that is not the point. I use it more as a mp3 player than the gaming part itself. As for Metal Gear AC1D, it's pretty good, but not damn good... Hard to play with little-no Japanese ability.

Well... I preordered my PSP about a week ago from www.ebgames.com
My package, with tax and shipping will probably cost almost 500 dollars.
But, it's totally worth it. Metal Gear Ac!d, Lumines(the people that did REZ
are involved with this game), and the Diablo style game are the three I ordered
to come with the system, as well as a 256 MB Memory Stick.

I know it has problems with battery life, but I'm pretty sure if you are in a well-
lit area and have the Luminance setting down to the lowest level, the battery should
last quite a bit longer. You can also order something for like $60 that gives you
a case, 12 UMD covers, an AC adaptor, a battery pack that runs off of AAA batteries
(which extends the playtime by about 3 more hours, possibly more), and some
other goodies.

I ordered one because Metal Gear as a card game sounds awesome, having
the ability to play MP3's, movies, and video games on the same small system
is freaking great, and many other good games will come out for it soon.
Think of all the great franchises Sony and its third-party developers have to
offer.

I just hope that Nippon Ichi and Atlus release something for it. D:

I prefer my DS because Nintendo markets what it is, a portable gaming platform. The PSP is being marketed as a home console you can hold in your hands, and I don't want to play a lot of PS2 ports, they can stay on my TV. There are games that are just better suited, I feel, for a handheld environment. I don't want to play Gran Turismo on a tiny screen, I want to play it on a big TV.

And PSP doesn't have Animal Crossing DS. The End.

There really isn't that much of a need for somethin like that for me. I don't have the time to just whip out a thing in school or somewhere and start playing. I would much rather have a tiny version of Tetris to mess around with :D

March 24th (actually the few days after) are going to win for me.

PSP and IIDX 9th LE will probably arrive on the same day. XD omgwtfbbq

And, why is everyone talking about all these "ports".

Death JR.,Rengoku, Lumines, Metal Gear Ac!d, and moany others ARE BRAND NEW.

And one of the best games on the DS, Super Mario 64 DS, is basically a port.
Animal Crossing DS will be a port.
I'm sure lots of other games will be. I just don't see the difference between ports
for the DS from GCN/past games and PSP ports from PS2 and PSX games. I will
still buy the games if they are and/or were good.

Until companies truly find a way to be innovative with the touch screen
(Castlevania DS looks promising), I'm probably going to be more interested
in the PSP.

And the possibility of portable Rhythm Action games on the PSP (Amplitude,
Pop'n, IIDx, others) makes me want it all the more.
